Overview

Fed up with an outlaw existence, Calico Jack Rackam swears off the pirate life, until he meets Anne Bonny, a woman who would as soon stab a man as give him a good tumble—that is, unless he's a pirate. Soon Jack finds himself out on the high seas, with Anne by his side and his men spoiling for action.

    I Also Recommend:

    A Topsy-Turvy Novel

James L Nelson's The Only Life that Mattered reads as more of a thrilling fiction than any historical account. While all historical inaccuracies and complete fabrications are acknowledged by Nelson, there are still several action scenes so impractical as to render them silly. Additionally, a number of sex scenes would be more appropriate for one of those little romance novels than a story about two of the fiercest female pirates in history. Nelson's knowledge of seamanship is evident throughout, though some of his pirates' expressions read as a little cliche. Overdramatic but good for a quick read and overall a valiant attempt. Three stars.
