First Chapter

Chapter 1

Know, therefore, that from the greater silence I shall return.... Forget not that I shall come back to you.... A little while, a moment of rest upon the wind, and another woman shall bear me.

KAHLIL GIBRAN

There is someone special for everyone. Often there are two or three or even four. They come from different generations. They travel across oceans of time and the depths of heavenly dimensions to be with you again. They come from the other side, from heaven. They look different, but your heart knows them. Your heart has held them in arms like yours in the moon-filled deserts of Egypt and the ancient plains of Mongolia. You have ridden together in the armies of forgotten warrior-generals, and you have lived together in the sand-covered caves of the Ancient Ones. You are bonded together throughout eternity, and you will never be alone.

Your head may interfere: I do not know you." Your heart knows.

He takes your hand for the first time, and the memory of his touch transcends time and sends a jolt through every atom of your being. She looks into your eyes, and you see a soul companion across centuries. Your stomach turns upside down. Your arms are gooseflesh. Everything outside this moment loses its importance.

He may not recognize you, even though you have finally met again, even though you know him. You can feel the bond. You can see the potential, the future. But he does not. His fears, his intellect, his problems keep a veil over his heart's eyes. He does not let you help him sweep the veil aside. You mourn and grieve, and he moves on. Destiny can be so delicate.

When both recognize each other, no volcano could erupt with more passion. The energy released is tremendous.

Soul recognition may be immediate. A sudden feeling of familiarity, of knowing this new person at depths far beyond what the conscious mind could know. At depths usually reserved for the most intimate family members. Or even deeper than that. Intuitively knowing what to say, how they will react. A feeling of safety and a trust far greater than could be earned in only one day or one week or one month.

Soul recognition may be subtle and slow. A dawning of awareness as the veil is gently lifted. Not everyone is ready to see right away. There is a timing at work, and patience may be necessary for the one who sees first.

You may be awakened to the presence of your soul companion by a look, a dream, a memory, a feeling. You may be awakened by the touch of his hands or the kiss of her lips, and your soul is jolted back to life.

The touch that awakens may be that of your child, of a parent, of a sibling, or of a true friend. Or it may be your beloved, reaching across the centuries, to kiss you of her lips, and your soul is jolted back to life.

The touch that awakens may be that of your child, of a parent, of a sibling, or of a true friend. Or it may be your beloved, reaching across the centuries, to kiss you once again and to remind you that you are together always, to the end of time.

    Truth about soul mates

When a soulmate arrives they can see the real you. The you beyond the mask and the scripts and the roles you play. Even if you have spent a lifetime creating a persona behind job titles, social connections, money, life experiences, etc ... they will see through it all in an instant. You cannot run and you cannot hide no matter how hard you try. You also cannot forget them even if you were to run to another place in the world and get really caught up in other things. Soul connections, especially cultivated over lifetimes, are beyond time and space or any lengths humans go to deny what is the truth. Dr. Weiss eloquently explains here that you are not crazy ... you are simply connected to a soul mate. A fascinating book on the nature of soul love and why its ok to never forget that person despite it all. One of my friends in San Francisco who is both a medical professional and an alternative medicine practitioner mentioned this book to me. It certainly shed a unique notion on some of my own life experiences. Some people are easier to forget even if you cared. Why? They may have been a "contract or project" mate instead of a soul mate. A contract mate is one who is in your life to push you forward and live out a growth lesson with. So when its complete (the assignment) it only takes a bit of time to be back to your usual self. A soul mate is far more than that ... they are the people who often bring you back to your essence... the real you that you may have run from in pain as a youth. It's like ugly duckling plain Jane who was the social outcast in a small town and found herself on top of the world in an international city being the toast of the town, the Queen of the scene, and talked about. Despite a persona of urban hip sophisticate success story with a personality to boot ... along comes the boy next door who sees the real her, the girl who liked poetry and arts and crafts festivals. It's startling and it can be scary. Hence, why they can see you in a way others can't. After pretending for years to be a certain type of person socially ... I met a soul mate ... and no matter what I did... he cut right through it and called me on it time and time again. It was frustrating but inevitably enlightening.

    Like soul mates!

I found I couldn't put this book down when I started reading it. It answers many questions and is very thought provoking. Both my husband and I felt when we met that we were soul mates and after reading this book I truly believe it. What other explanation can there be when you meet someone and find an instant connection, a bonding with the person? Why else do you finish each other's sentences, know exactly what someone will say or do even shortly after meeting them? Since reading the book we are now both highly interested in past life regressions to find out exactly where we were together in past lives.

    YES, ONLY LOVE IS REAL!

This book was the first of Brian Weiss's I'd ever read, and I must say I stayed with it until I finished every last sentence! The book verified what I have long believed...that we travel from one life to another with "soulmates" and ultimately make contact with those individuals in one form or another. How many of us have met an individual for the first time, only to instantly connect with that person as if we'd known them forever! Dr. Weiss's experiences with his patients prove that love is real, and once you find that very special person, you connect with them in a way that even death cannot take away. The book sent chills through me as I read experiences similar to what has occurred in my own life with one special individual. What a thrill it must be to sit through a regression session with Dr. Weiss! Since reading "Only Love is Real", I've read all his other books, and eagerly await the next!

    Compelling page turner!

Brian Weiss's "Only Love is Real," tells the story of two of his patients whose many lives intersect in many places... and in this life time is his own front office! Weiss interweaves his own kind-hearted observations along with telling the story of the two souls who finally connect again and find true love. Well written and a fast read. I found another book on the same theme, but much more immediate, intense and personal - Love From Both Sides - A True Story of Soul Survival and Sacred Sexuality. Hold on to your hat!

    I Also Recommend:

Only Love is Real is fantastic

Only Love Is Real explores healing through past-life regression, focusing on the role past lives have in current day phobias and issues people expose on their therapists' couch.
Weiss shares Pedro's and Elizabeth's sessions of past life regression, revealing they are soulmates who have traumatically lost each other over and over again throughout time. Weiss shares his techniques and his discovery in this real life love story of two strangers who sought the same psychiatrist for treatment but ended up reuniting with the one soul their souls have subconsciously been searching for. No telling if this therapy is truly legitimate, but given Weiss following and success, it is surely intriguing and provokes thought on the subject of reincarnation.
Only Love Is Real is definitely worth the read for those who've had the "I feel like I've known you forever" feeling when meeting someone for the first time.

    Phenomenal!

Outstanding book! One of my favorites! Dr. Brian Weiss does a phenomenal job on this book! It gives one hope that somewhere out there is a soul mate waiting for everybody. I've been told that God wants most people married, but not everybody. Well, the Bible says in Genesis that when God created Adam, he said, 'It is not good for man to be alone, I will make a help mate suitable to him.' It also says man shall leave mother and father and join his wife and they shall become as one flesh. Paul said in 1 Cor. 7:2, 'To avoid fornication, let each man have his own wife and each woman her own husband.' Yet five verses later, he said God gives each person one gift or another, namely, marriage or singleness. Jesus said in Matt. 19 that some are eunuchs and others don't marry for the kingdom of God. Yet, Paul said, 'He who finds a wife finds a good thing.' So we have some apparant contradictions in the Bible. Why do I bring this up? Well, this book from Dr. Weiss helped me to harmonize all of scripture. Although probably not everybody is meant to get married in this life, everybody has a soul mate, if not more. Even if, say, I don't get married in this life, I was married in past lives and I'll marry again in future lives! I even like the scripture he quoted in this book out of Ecclesiastes! I can't wait to read it again and again! I would recommend this book to anybody who's looking for answers! This book is more than just a mere love story!

    fast read of enjoyable fluff...

I have a few problems with this book. One is that the herioines, who are reunited by Weiss in this book, are young and beautiful and in their pastlife regressions they are always victims of abuse or unfair acts -- never the people who are tyrants or abusers. Why is this? Also, Weiss seems to suggest, that even though there may be one or two or even three soulmates for every person -- that it is the person's job to somehow recognize that a soulmate is in front of them so that they do not lose out on their chance of connectedness! I tend to believe, that in God's good grace, all of those who remain open and positive and faithful to the sometimes difficult task of finding love outside themselves will find it and will find it with a true soulmate!!! Also, why is it that Weiss is so lucky to have found his true soulmate at the ripe age of 18? He makes it sound as though it was some virtue of his own. There are some good prinicples of life and love within the book, but i believe that these messages are available in many forums. If someone is looking for a fairy-tale that will take about two hours to read -- I say go ahead and read this. It has a happy ending.

    Fascinating but skeptical

I didn't put the book down and the ending was as fascinating as the beginning. However, as someone working in the medical field, I couldn't help but have a couple of questions of my own: (1) Could it just be coincidences? (2) Could it be implanted memories (particularly the name Eli of her father suggested by Weiss)? (3) Could it be Weiss' wishful thinking to search for Pedro's attention to Elizabeth when he subtly "manipulated" the session lineup? (4) Could it be some couple who actually knew each other in this life time (and the consellor himself)'s scam or scheme? I am not suggesting anything against this moving story, but it just seems too good to be true. I did feel happy for these two lovers reunited if it was indded a non-fiction. Still skeptical though.

    This Is A Must Read

Where is the love of our life? Isn't this the question we all ask? This spectacular book by Dr. Weiss chronicles the answer to that question through two of his patients' past life regressions. This book poetically illustrates that meeting, finding, and ultimatley experincing the love of your life may be both destiny and chance intertwined between immortal souls. I loved it.

Is there such a thing as a soul mate?

Dr. Weiss has done it again. In 'Many Lives, Many Masters' he shares his introduction to reincarnation with us. In 'Only Love Is Real' he takes this a step further to show how we must complete any unfinished business with relationships from our past. It's fascinating to find one person regressed to a specific lifetime. To find two that share the same memories from different perspectives is incredible. And the fact that their current lives do in some way mirror the old, just proves the karma or cause and effect theory. This is a great book for people looking for insights into their own relationships which probably also have ties to the past as well as those looking for a soulmate. Another book I recommend to those looking for soulmate material is the novel, 'The Destiny of Miro' which has at its core, a soulmate relationship that spans two lifetimes.

    And the spirit lives on!!!!

This book was recommended to my by a friend and was definitely worth every penny that I paid for it. Brian Weiss' story of the undying spirit was more than just moving. For me it shined light on a whole new world that I could not quite grasp prior to this. The references to the teachings from the masters were invaluable and I have since been able to apply many of their insights to my own life situtaion with much success. This book is worth a read for anyone searching for an expansion of their spirituality through knowledge.

    Excellent!!

This is a fascinating book with only a few spots that drag a little. I suggest skimming through the rough parts and go ahead to the 'meat' of the story. It's well worth it. The basic story itself is both enlightening and awe inspiring. It gives hope to us all. A must read.
