Overview

When Britney Spears perkily popped onto MTV last year with the well-choreographed clip for the infectious "...Baby One More Time," no one guessed (besides Jive Records' savvy marketing team) that the Louisiana teen would start a fashion trend with Catholic school girl pleats and knee-highs, or more important, that Spears would spawn a slew of young, flaxen-haired starlets such as fellow Mouseketeer Christina Aguilera, the giggly Mandy Moore, and the virtuous Jessica Simpson. Now as the challenges to her throne mount, the original queen of teen is back with Oops!...I Did It Again. And as the title predicts, Spears has done it again. Using the same winning combination as ...Baby One More Time -- thin yet pleasing vocals cooing over catchy pop songs heavy on bubbling synth hooks and punctuated bass-lines -- the cutey turned hottie has another bona fide hit album on her hands. Just as the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync re-merged with a more mature sound on their sophomore efforts, so has Spears. Thanks to pop über-producer Max Martin (Celine Dion, Backstreet Boys), Spears shines on the tongue-in-cheek lead single, the triumphant "Stonger," and the rousing, get-lost declaration "Don't Go Knockin' on My Door." Kudos also go to country diva Shania Twain, who cowrote the polished ballad "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know," and to Spears, who co-wrote the confessional "Dear Diary." While die-hard Rolling Stones fans may flinch at her almost guitar-less verison of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction," Spears' breathy delivery gives the song a pulse-raising sense of urgency. As a whole, Ooops! tells the story of a young woman coming to terms with the peaks and valleys of being Miss Popular -- from fame to boys to breaking hearts. But from all indications, Spears will continue her ascent.

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Given the phenomenal success of Britney Spears' debut, ...Baby One More Time, it should come as no surprise that its sequel offers more of the same. After all, she gives away the plot with the ingenious title of her second album, Oops!...I Did It Again, essentially admitting that the record is more of the same. It has the same combination of sweetly sentimental ballads and endearingly gaudy dance-pop that made One More Time. Fortunately, she and her production team not only have a stronger overall set of songs this time, but they also occasionally get carried away with the same bewildering magpie aesthetic that made the first album's "Sodapop" -- a combination of bubblegum, urban soul, and raga -- a gonzo teen pop classic. It doesn't happen all that often -- the clenched-funk revision of the Stones' deathless "Satisfaction" is the most obvious example -- but it helps give the album character apart from the well-crafted dance-pop and ballads that serve as its heart. In the end, it's what makes this an entertaining, satisfying listen.

I'll admit, I have her debut. I'll admit, I'll probably buy this one. Her latest single isn't all that bad. But a review is NOT supposed to be blinding adoration for it just because it's Britney. Has anyone listented to '...One More Time' and then listented to '...I Did it Again'? Am I the only one who hears the lack of originality? These songs were cut out of the same mold. I like most of her songs, they have a good beat to them. But it won't be her average singing voice that will sell this album. It will be adoring fans and the album's infectious beat. To those of you who think she has the best voice of anyone; listen to Christina Agiulera. That girl can belt out a tune like Mariah Carey.

Britney`s catchy beats are good. She has improved a lot. She is the best pop act and the hottest teen singer. Britney will probably be the only one to not be a one hit wonder.

Britney made a great album this time. I have to admit this album is better thatn her first. I especially like the 'Oops! I Did It Again' song. It reminds me of many things I have gone through with my boyfriend. I wish her the best of luck an dmost of all I hope every album she comes out with is as good as her first two.

I do enjoy pop music. A total *Nsync fan. I did enjoy the beat to Britney's song ...Baby One More Time. I do think this album is the same as the last!! The beats are indeed catchy, but i would not go out to buy this cd. It is trendy. I think all her songs on 'Oops..' sound exactly the same and there is not much diversity there. Her voice is not exactly a true inspiring one, but the beats i would say are catchy.

I was surprised that I liked this CD. Britney has a lot of good songs on this CD, and some really good dance songs. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes Pop music. Also this CD also shows how Britney has grown as a artist, and this CD is a lot better than her first.

i bought this cd a month ago and i still can't stop listening to it! and everyone who criticize it, YOU ARE SOOO WRONG!! britney spears is a very talented artist and works very hard at her career-now that doesn't deserve criticism, does it???

Amazing. Simply a down to earth story of a girl who gets her big break. 'OOPS I DID IT AGAIN' is a classic Cinderella tale of how Spears makes it in the ultra-competitive world of pop-music. A definite good read.

The song Oops I did it again is all most like a pun. Becaue ' oops I did it agian' sounds just like Babby one more time with drifferent lyrics. This is deffently a Sophmore album. I liked the BABBY ONE MORE TIME CD Better.

Britney Spears' latest CD is by far her best! All the songs are great!!! This is a must have for all Brit fans. The only thing I wishes was that it was an Enhance CD like her first.

No just kidding! This Album is the best! I know it hasn't been released yet, but I previwed the tracks, and they are wonderful! You have the great R&B feels of 'Can't Make You Love Me', 'One Kiss From You', 'Stronger', and What U See Is What U Get'. Plus, the great ballads, 'Where Are You Now', 'When Your Eyes Say It','Dear Diary', and of course, 'Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know'. AND, the great sounds of 'Don't Go Knockin' On My Door', and the remake of the Rolling Stones' hit '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction'! But 'Lucky', a song about being a star, and 'Oops!...I Did It Again', are my favorites! There are also three 'unreleased' tracks for the U.S. that will be available on IMPORTS, 'Girl in the Mirror', 'Heart', and 'You Got It All'. The 'Girl in The Mirror', is a very touching song, and I love it. It is a very slow ballad, and Britney really shows her vocal talents in it! Not that she already didn't, but that song is exceptional! 'Heart', and 'You Got It All', are also very wonderful songs'! This cd is truly Britney at her best, and I suggest if you want a copy, you should pre-order it, because this album is HOT!
