Overview

Between hate and lust lies heaven, hell…and smoldering love.

Dragon’s Fate, Book 2

Like his brothers, Madoc is a dragon born by blood magic. Unlike them, he has only once bitten a human in a near-hopeless quest to find his eternal mate. Watching that woman die nearly destroyed him.

Now he works to invent a watch that will rewind time. When he attends the Spectacle of Time in Paris, though, he finds a woman who shakes the foundation of his world and crumbles his ferocious control.

Ever since the black-haired man with the red crescent on his cheek ruined her family, Fina has hated him. When she runs into him in Paris, she is determined to show him just how much. Instead, overwhelmed by the desire to both kill him and bed him, her body betrays her and she melts in his arms.

Sparks fly, and—when his teeth sink into her skin—she ignites. But she can’t run far and fast enough to avoid the burning truth. She is now part of Madoc’s dangerous world…body, soul, and fire.

Warning: This novel contains explicit sex, time-shifting, distance-hopping, a super-hot dragon, and a woman who can take the heat.

I found this story awesome! Madoc (Zir) was obsessed with making a watch to turn back time. He met Zina on his quest. Zina did not have a good memory of Madoc. Will she ever forgive him? Could Zina survive the Zir mating bite? I am glad that I put aside my doubts about reading a historical paranormal romance novel. I read it and overcame my doubts. I almost missed out. You'll just have to read the story to find out what happens next and the HEA. I highly recommend this author. Open Flame gets 4.5 stars and a Top Pick! The book can be read standalone. Open Flame is the second book in the Dragon's Fate Series by Lacy Danes. What I Thought: This is the second book in the Dragon's Fate series and it jumps forward a few years in the timeframe of the lives of the lives of the brothers, as they search for their mates. We no longer focus on Jordan and his newly found mate. We actually don't hear much about them, just the occasional showing of them in the actions/decisions of what is happening overall.  We find ourselves in the eyes of the brother of fire, Madoc. We learned a little about him in the first book, particularly that he wasn't keen to bite, especially after his first attempt, which lost him the love of his life.  Within the first pages of the book, we are thrust into the arms of a soon to be important character, well a fair few of them actually. We find out that Madoc and Hudson are in search of a specific set os pieces, some bought some commissioned, to create a clock. This would be a very special clock, indeed, and would help the plight of the brothers and gain Hudson what he has always wanted, the ability to go back in time and get the woman he loves.  It is with this premise, that we find ourselves in the clock shop of Fina's father, where a series of events take place that put the book into full throttle. We are taken on a short and swift journey as Madoc's life begins to change and unfold, as well as several others'. I found that the book had a decent pace, but I did think it skipped over a few events too swiftly. It would have been nice to have some more time and detail to watch as people come to terms with the cards they've been dealt, similar to the level of detail we saw in the first book. I would have also loved to read a bit, in the beginning, to catch us up on what happened to Hudson and our two mates from the first book, as it felt like we just found them and then it's much later.  Overall, though, I enjoyed this book. I like the story and that the brothers are a rare, new hybrid of vampires and dragons. I do think it is a quick read, perfect for those who want a steamy, short fantasy read for commutes or the rare reading time at home.

So just a little while back, I read Waterfall, which was book one. I absolutely loved it. And so I needed to read this one ASAP, so I am so glad for blog tours with books I love! :) I’m also a little mad, and devastated, because I SO CALLED MADOC FIRST!!! It’s like the second sentence in my Waterfall review. LOL I loved Jordan and all, but I totally wanted Madoc…. *sigh* another Book Boyfriend stolen away…. But anywho, let’s talk seriously now :) Madoc is the broody HAWT PIECE of a dragon. He needs to find his mate, but that doesn’t mean he’s gunna make it easy on anybody LOL I do feel bad for him, because he thought he found his mate once, and it wasn’t “the one” and she died, so he’s not so really trying hard, but he really needs to if he wants to keep living. He’s pretty brilliant too. He’s trying to invent a time travel machine, say a watch, that will let him fix all this curse and death business. And this is how he meets his mate :) Fina is the clockmakers daughter. She totally hates Madoc. LOL you know, for a while. Madoc caused some trouble in the past and gave her a lot of hardships. And of course, Madoc goes about the mate thing all wrong, and turns all cave man. Poor girl.  There’s some excellent plot twists, especially when you learn about the curse, and how things work, and the bad guys in the background trying everything in their power to take these dragon brothers down. If you are about steamy romance, with HAWT dragon shifter, and strong females, you are in for so many goodies! I really enjoy this series and I’m so glad there’s more brothers! I suspect it’ll get even better from here!! :) YAY! 4.5 STEAMY ALPHA MALE PAWS!

Open Flame (Dragon's Fate #2) by Lacy Danes 3 ½ of 5 stars Dragon shape shifter, Madoc, is on a quest to turn back time.  In order for dragon shifters to find their mate, they need to bite them.  If the person is not their mate, they die.  Having had a lover once perish on him after piercing her, Madoc vowed never to bite another, unless he could turn back time to save her if she was not his intended.    Lacy Danes Open Flame is an original entertaining novel.  Danes is a talented writer, making you feel you are in the era of the book.  I recommend this quick read for lovers of paranormal and fantasy.    ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
