Pure propaganda which blames the hackers for what our paranoid government is doing to the internet. 29 pages with a lenghty preview of a novel. The author works for Microsoft, a factoid which shows. Disturbing lack of dialogue in both the short story and the novel preview. Skip this.

I really enjoyed Mark Russinovich's ZERO HOUR and the main characters Jeff and Daryl in that story. Operation Desolation is a short story that continues with mostly Jeff on a quick thriller about the troublesome world of information security. You don't have to read ZERO HOUR to enjoy Operation Desolation. If you do enjoy Operation Desolation I highly recommend reading ZERO HOUR and then getting Trojan Horse in September 2012.

As this is the author's first attempt as a storyteller, the story drags and becomes belabored at times. It's an OK read.
