Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Riad Barmada, MD (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine)
Description: This second edition, four-volume publication contains detailed descriptions of surgical techniques and rationales of the operative management of traumatic and nontraumatic disease of the musculoskeletal system.
Purpose: The book is meant to provide the orthopedic surgeon and resident with a complete reference to review technical details of surgical procedures, and for medical students to review principles of various surgical treatments. Overall, these objectives are met.
Audience: The authors are credible authorities in their field. The book is probably not beneficial to medical students, but is a very valuable reference to residents and practicing orthopedic surgeons.
Features: The illustrations are of excellent quality and provide visual demonstration of the procedures that are sometimes difficult to describe in the text. One added benefit is an excellent list of references for each topic if an extensive review is needed.
Assessment: This book is valuable to the surgical department library and helpful to any orthopedic surgeon or resident to have as a reference. This new edition is updated and several additional chapters are included.
