I have over 300 CD's and if my house was burning, this would be my top pick of ones to save. I've listened to it dozens of times and have never tired of Natalie's latest endeavor. I find this a great followup to Tigerlilly (which I'd also want to save in the fire!).

This is my first CD from Natalie Merchant. It is a truly amazing CD. Thank you, Natalie! The vocals and acoustics are excellent; the mood is warm and emotional, yet relaxing; and the feeling I get when listening to it is undescribeable. I knew I liked her music, but now I realize she is my favorite Artist. If you like Natalie Merchant, I highly recommend this CD.

Without a doubt, Ophelia is an outstanding work of music. I just want to play it over and over and over. The lyrics are well written and meaningful. The music is absolutely gorgeous. Natalie's use of strings adds a dimension to this CD that isn't heard very often. "Life Is Sweet" is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, followed by "My Skin" and "King Of May." If I had to choose between these three, I couldn't. This is one of those unusual CDs where every single song is great. Listen to it a few times and you will agree. Natalie's voice puts you in an ethereal mood that makes you never want to turn this CD off. You will not be disappointed with Ophelia - guaranteed! Put your player's setting on "repeat" and let this CD play on. I am convinced that I will wear it out.

If ever there were a C.D. that was worth listening to that relived the spirit we have within us, but sometimes forget to touch, this is it. Natalie Merchant carrys the voice of an angel from the Heavens.

An individual character is evident for all of Ms. Merchant's solo endeavours: Tigerlily, poetic and precious; Motherland, earthy as coffee grounds; THCD, an academic, grave, and celebratory venture. But NONE of these albums- none- has the ethereal beauty and lushness of OPHELIA. From the opening track, in which Merchant follows a woman through history; to the fierce desire to be wanted displayed in "My Skin"; to the poetic and distilled wintry beauty of "Frozen Charlotte"; to the cappers of them all, the emotionally and inetellectually stirring "King of May" and "Life is Sweet". It is this display of Merchant's career where she's at the top of her game: evocative lyrics and a voice with a lovely gravitas and tenderness. As in the many-costumed OPHELIA photographs, Merchant shows that she is a many faceted, talented artist.
