Includes entirely new information on glaucoma medication, cataract surgery, pharmacological agents and refractive surgery, and the latest information on phacoemulsification, fluorescein angiography, MRI, and pediatric ophthalmology.
The book contains predominantly black-and-white illustrations, with some color illustrations.

Purpose: Since the previous edition was published, there have been significant advances in the field of ophthalmology which have lead to improved treatments and surgical techniques. This book is a compendium of up-to-date information on many of these new practices and procedures.
Audience: The editors have written this seventh edition for those who are training to become ophthalmic medical personnel, as well as for those with more experience. They are credible authorities on the subject matter. Previous editions have been used by ophthalmic medical personnel to prepare for certification at various levels.
Features: This text contains basic information from ophthalmic anatomy to a variety of eye disorders and their treatments. Detailed information for the ophthalmic surgical assistant is also included. The seventh edition is an expansion and update of previously written material on contact lenses and refractive surgery. The color atlas of common eye disorders has been expanded and updated as well. The improved quality of these photographs helps provide a clearer understanding of each eye disorder. The new edition contains information on Diagnostic Ultrasound (pgs 199-202) that is somewhat outdated. Chapter 21 contains very little information on common retinal disorders, and could be expanded to include more. Extensive research has been ongoing in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, and new surgical treatments are currently being tested (e.g., macular translocation, photodynamic therapy, etc.). This edition does not contain new advancements in this area and perhaps should.
Assessment: The editors fulfill their purpose with this comprehensive reference guide for the ophthalmic medical assistant, and this is a good replacement for the previous edition. Although some of the text could be further updated and expanded, the basic information is provided in a concise and easy to follow format.
