Children's LiteratureTeenager Tyler is uncomfortably surprised when he meets Jessica, an old flame, at a photo shoot for Brio Magazine, because he has fallen for blonde and beautiful Hannah. Since Hannah is a strict Fundamentalist Christian, however, he will have no opportunity to date her, as her parents will only accept a suitor intent on marriage. Tyler is torn between beginning again with Jessica, who is not constrained by a moral code, and remaining true to Hannah. He corresponds by email with his youth pastor about his problems and also confers with his three best female friends, who find Jessica obnoxious. Tyler writes Christian music and tries to organize a band to play his songs, but he is too amateurish to succeed. He also thinks deeply about how boys his age treat girls and whether their behavior is acceptable. The plot is open-ended with no conclusions, and while the writing is lively and often funny, the characters are stereotypical. Set in Colorado, the book is part of the "Brio Girls" series.
