Overview

Does your partner want to go out on Friday nights when you prefer to curl up at home with a movie?

Does your neat-freak boyfriend always want to clean up your cluttered office?

Does your wife want to plan trips six months in advance while you're a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of person?

The truth is, opposites attract. People who are different from each other in fundamental ways often catch each other's attention. We are attracted to the very qualities we wish we had ourselves. A shy person looks for a mate who is outgoing and gregarious to provide a social circle, and the outgoing person may need to be with someone who won't compete with him for attention. It seems like the perfect match—that is, until those very differences that originally attracted us start to drive us crazy.

But these differences don't have to drive couples apart. Renee Baron, a marriage and family therapist with more than twenty-five years of experience, uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator™ to provide a practical program for learning to appreciate our differences, rather than fight over them. The MBTI™ is the most widely used personality indicator in the world. By discovering your innate personality preferences and those of your partner, you can stop having the same fights over and over again and start appreciating the gifts each of you offers to the relationship.

From the afterword - Paul D. Tieger
"Beginning with the first page, I experienced Renee’s gift for explaining type preferences in a simple, elegant, understandable and very engaging way...Renee’s able to employ mutliple devices - checklists, spot-on anecdotes, and very funny cartoons - to make some complex ideas not only understandable but immediately useful in real ways."

“This book not only delivers on the promise of helping readers create lasting relationships, it could be described as a layman’s guide to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®...The book is concise, thorough, and upbeat. The information is illustrated with cartoons—a clue to its reader-friendly tone.”

    great for relationships

Long-time marriage and family therapist Renee Baron uses the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to educate her clients on how personality type, or preference, affects relationships. In Opposites Attract, she uses a strong sense of humor to help readers figure out the often confusing world of relationships. Baron says, “In our relationships, especially our intimate ones, we often are attracted to people who are different from us.” To help us understand those differences, we can use the MBTI to determine our own as well as our partner’s type and the traits and characteristics that go along with those types. Opposites Attract uses quizzes, comics and checklists to explain the four MBTI types, plus offers advice on how to communicate with each type and what to look for in yourself to make communication more effective. A fun read with humor that might just make you laugh at yourself and help improve your relationships.
