Gr 8-12 It is hard to imagine a more complete explanation of the different aspects of optics. The book begins with an overview of the physics of light and the foundation of optics. A thorough discussion follows on the impact dis coveries in optics have made on such fields as computer science, photogra phy, laser technology, and military technology. Where appropriate, histor ical background is given, as well as a look at possible future developments. Although Hecht's writing is lucid, much of the material is highly technical. Therefore, only more advanced stu dents are likely to find this book useful. Graphs, diagrams, and charts make up most of the illustrations.
