From The CriticsReviewer: Jamie Boone, D.O.(University of Kansas Medical Center)
Description: This is a well-organized, comprehensive atlas and text of oral disease with abundant, high-quality images covering both neoplastic and non-neoplastic pathology.
Purpose: With few references available with a sole focus on oral pathology, the author succeeds at producing an easy-to-use, comprehensive atlas and text that presents histological criteria for the diagnosis of oral disease with numerous images to illustrate these findings, in addition to offering clinicopathologic correlation.
Audience: This lavishly illustrated atlas and text, written by an expert in the field, would be a great asset to pathologists in training, practicing pathologists, or any medical or dental professionals with an interest in oral pathology.
Features: The book's most notable feature is the selection of high-quality gross and histologic images, with numerous pictures illustrating the diverse histologic findings of each entity. Accompanying these images is a concise review of each entity, including the histologic criteria for diagnosis, differential diagnosis, clinical correlation, and treatment options. Other important features include a short chapter on normal oral histology and a short appendix section with management of mucosal disease.
Assessment: This can be recommended without hesitation to anyone looking for a comprehensive oral pathology book. With few up-to-date references for oral pathology available, this one would be a great asset to any pathologist's library. The easy-to-use atlas format and numerous, high-quality images combine for a great reference for the diagnosis of almost any oral disease.
