Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Dianne Ochiltree
This title in the "Looking Glass Library" collection (Colors) takes a look at the color orange. Here, a young boy and his stepmom hop on their bikes for an autumn outing in which they see all sorts of orange objects: tree leaves, clothing, pumpkins...even an orange! The story is told in simple prose, age-appropriate language and short sentences, featuring a " orange" refrain for each object highlighted on the page, something listeners and beginning readers will anticipate and appreciate. Text is set in a large, sans serif typestyle, which is useful for emergent readers and easy on the eyes of grownup readers. The full-color artwork is bold, contemporary, kid-friendly, and on each page, orange is the star of the show! Kids will enjoy going back through the pages to point out all the orange items pictured. Other features in the book are a ?words to know' section, an explanation of how the secondary color orange is made with the combination of yellow and red, and a link to the publisher website where young readers can learn more about the colors featured in this series: brown, gray, orange, pink, purple and tan. A great choice for preschool or early elementary library shelves! Reviewer: Dianne Ochiltree
