BRAND NEW Bk w/ poss. subtle ding/s ('Read More' just below gives details). 100% Satis. Guaranteed! Fast Shipping. DETAILS: This book is brand new returned from a bookstore with ... clean, crisp pages. In fact, typically, it still has that wonderful new book smell, but note there may be a small imperfection such as a little cover crease or light scuffing or a store sticker on back. Often there is no ding or the ding is so small you can still give it as a gift. We just cannot promise it is gift quality every time, as we tend to have multiple copies and we cannot catalog and describe each ding (or lack thereof). ALSO PLS NOTE SERVICE MATTERS: We stand by our name and offer an iron-clad 100% satisfaction guarantee. We ship right away, respond quickly to inquiries, and treat our customers like we want to be treated: politely, friendly and eager to please! Read more Show Less

The perfect antidote to "Are we there yet???" Once kids get their hands on the travel-inspired projects in Origami On-The-Go, hours will fly by. Origami in itself is such an absorbing activity; add to it the pleasures of using vibrant custom papers to create unexpected animals and planes and cultural treasures, and the combination is a lifesaver (for parents), entertainment (for kids), and a great learning experience (good for parents and kids).

Overview

The perfect antidote to "Are we there yet???" Once kids get their hands on the travel-inspired projects in Origami On-The-Go, hours will fly by. Origami in itself is such an absorbing activity; add to it the pleasures of using vibrant custom papers to create unexpected animals and planes and cultural treasures, and the combination is a lifesaver (for parents), entertainment (for kids), and a great learning experience (good for parents and kids).

Margaret Van Sicklen, the "origami swami" who's known for her clear, easy-to-follow instructions and clever designs, creates 40 projects with a globe-trotting theme—Stunt Plane, Rainforest Turtle, Samurai Helmet, Mummy, Dachshund Chopstick Rest, Tiny Scrap Book, Nantucket Swordfish, Chinese Opera Hat. The folds are geared to children as young as eight, and range from the playful, Pig Finger Puppet, to the practical, Souvenir Wallet, to the beautiful, a Peacock—the kind a traveler might find strutting on the grounds of the Taj Mahal. Paper for the projects is included in the back of the book: 100 sheets of colorful, custom-designed origami pages, each tied in to the projects, plus two pages of stickers.

Along the way kids learn much about the world: how to convert dollars to euros and the names of original currency; the Seven Natural Wonders; essential words in different languages; latitude and longitude; all about the chatty, intelligent crows of Russia and Australia’s fuzzy koala bears—inspiration to make one of your own.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Long car or airplane trips will fly by with this activity book. Nearly fifty origami projects will keep kids entertained for hours. Readers will find projects for all different skill levels, from an accordion folded fan to an African elephant with thirty-nine folds. Rather than organizing by difficulty, Van Sicklen arranges the projects by type. Part 1 is full of toys like airplanes and finger puppets; Part 2 shows how to make animals from around the world; Part 3 has cultural projects like a Samaria helmet or a Canadian canoe; and the fourth and final part consists of boxes and frames for storing one's souvenirs and paper projects. A short section at the beginning covers basic folds and handy tips can be found throughout the book. Best of all, are the hundred sheets of origami paper included at the back of the book. Some of this paper is patterned on both sides with one-way designs for specific projects. Unfortunately, the directions and accompanying illustrations show regular origami paper (also included), while the photos of the finished projects nearly always shows them done in the specially designed paper. This will almost certainly lead to frustrations-especially for less experienced folders. The good news is that there is plenty of regular paper for beginners to practice with as well as duplicates of most of the fancy ones. Overall, this is a fun book for travelers or anyone interested in the art of paper folding. Reviewer: Heather Christensen
