Overview

Peter Underhill was smitten by Ebony Mills the moment she joined his street hockey team-a coal-eyed, tomboy goddess, as dark and dazzling as he was pale and awkward. That she returned his affection was a boy's dream come true. But despite a bond that grew into their teens, Peter's intolerant father and Ebony's meddling family finally forced them apart. That was twenty years ago-and Peter has been trying to find his way back to his first and true love ever since.

When she was a kid, Ebony feared no one, not even Peter's violent, bigoted father. Back then, Ebony said she'd love Peter forever, and she meant it. It didn't matter that they couldn't share milestones like the high school prom together-what they had was the real thing, and nobody could take it away or could they? Even now, Ebony doesn't quite understand how she and Peter disappeared from each other's lives. Has the hatred that surrounded them finally won? Ebony doesn't want to believe that, but she knows one thing: if she ever has the chance to reunite with Peter, she'll never let him go. Because you don't throw away something that only comes along once in a lifetime. You don't mess with original love.

    LOVE HAS NO COLOR

THIS BOOK TURNED OUT TO BE A SURPRISING TREAT. I LIKE THE CONTRAST OF BLENDING THE ACTUAL STORY WITH THE NOVEL THAT PETER & EBONY WERE WRITING. THIS BOOK TUGS AT THE HEART, AND HAVE YOU ROOTING FOR TRUE LOVE AND FIRST LOVE, TO BE ABLE TO CONQUER TWENTY YEARS OF LIES, HATRED, AND RACE. J J MURRAY DOES A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THIS NOVEL. IT WAS A JOY TO READ.

Don't waste your money or time

Wished I read the sample first because I won't have purchased another of his books. I would have given it a big fat ZERO rating but it wasn't an option.

    more from this reviewer

Slow at first but hang in there...

I was worried when I started reading this book. It was slow for the first 150 pages to me. I was getting lost in what the male lead was going on about and about to put the book down. After reading the reviews here and seeing others say it is a slow start I kept at it. While I am making this sound like a chore is was not that bad. Once the reunion happened with the characters and the humor was added to the story...I was hooked! I stayed up to finish this book and was glad I did. I am an emotional reader and need to feel the connection to the story. By the end of this book I was crying and sad that it was ending.

The male lead Peter is to me a lost soul trying to get his life back on track. His search for his high school love Ebony gives him the drive he needs. The additional family characters in this book were a blast. They reminded me of my family in some ways. Now about Ebony...I did not get her at first. But by the end I liked her strength, her love for Peter and her focus. Give this book a try. It was an overall good read.

    A reviewer

One of the best romance novels I have read so far. At first it ws a little slow. But the main characters Ebony and Peter just kept making you want to pick up the book. I would give this book 5 stars. Oh, and Aunt We We had me dying through the whole book.

    A SLOW START

This book started slow and was very hard to get into. I continued to read it because of the great reviews written about the author's past novels. Eventually the storyline picked up and became interesting about halfway through the novel. I think the book would have been much better if Peter had reunited with Ebony and Destiny early into the story and the author focused on resolving the issues from their past to a greater degree. I felt that it was unbelieveable that Peter did not habor any anger at Ebony and her family for not telling him about Destiny. At a couple of points in the story I want to scream get a backbone to Peter. I did love the fact that Peter was able to see Ebony's beauty in a society that values white features above all and the fact that Ebony stayed close to his heart even when they were separated. All in all, the book was an okay read.

He did it again - another great read.

JJ Murray does it again. He kept me enthralled by the story as well as the story within the story. I also liked the political insight into book publishing. I couldn't wait to read this book since it is from a different point of view than his other novels. Great job. Buy it!

    It was ok

Well, this is my opinion, but this book wasn't better than Renee and Jay. It started out very slow.Usually when I read a book it only takes me a day to finish it, but this book it took me a while to get in to it. It only start getting good until he had a date with his daughter. I did like how he kept it real with his characters. Also, I didn't think when I went on his website and read the synopsis that the characters would be older.

    Another great story

I just couldn't put it down when I started. As usual the writing had me captivated and it flowed from beginning to end. If you haven't read one of JJ Murray's books before please try this one. You will be hooked as a reader.

    Wonderful

This story is so incredibly sweet and unlike other romance novels. It becomes the story of a man trying to find his true love. Not the story of a white man looking for his black girlfirend. It's so much more. It was funny also. I've read it back to back twice. I've only had it for a week.haha.

    Two if by sea

J.J. does it again. Love comes full circle in this endearing tale. The story of Peter, Ebony and their Destiny, with a jolt of the quirky people who they love and help shape their lives. The book is a great love story, funny, sweet, real and heart warming without any fluff it will have you loving characters while hating others but understanding them all. I absolutely loved this book, a great read.
