Think you know everything about the Orioles? Test your knowledge with this exhaustive guide. The Encyclopedia includes nearly 400 player profiles from Bobo to Zupo, the results of every game since 1954, and short features on managers and coaches. Browse through the seasons chronologically or by the players alphabetically. This comprehensive information is brought to life with more than 350 rarely seen photographs—including 26 color plates—from the Baseball Hall of Fame and the old Baltimore News-American, along with classic photos from the pages of Sport magazine and Sports Illustrated.

The Orioles Encyclopedia recounts the colorful history of this storied and beleaguered program. Perhaps some of the tales and memories found in these pages will inspire a conversation between a father and son, grandfather and granddaughter, boyfriend and girlfriend, old fan and new. With a foreword by Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, The Orioles Encyclopedia is the ultimate companion for any baseball fan who wears orange and black.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The subtitle actually underestimates this book's grand scope: The gargantuan Orioles Encyclopedia recaptures all 54 years of Baltimore's most beloved baseball birds. (For reasons of space and perhaps sanity, author Michael Gesker doesn't attempt to cover Baltimore's 19th- and early-20th-century ball clubs.) This 894-page opus contains everything you want to know about Oriole players and teams. The encyclopedia includes nearly 400 player profiles; results of every game since 1954; short features on managers and coaches; season summaries; and 350 photographs, including 29 superb color plates. A treat for O's fans of every vintage.

    Worth the Wait

Something like this must have taken years to put together. As a later addition to the Orioles fanbase, this tome gives you everything you ever wanted to know about the franchise since it arrived in Baltimore in 1954.

Stats, stories, player bios, owner and manager bios, history of the parks they played in, and on and on...

People often forget the past and this was one franchise that was filled with hsitory and accomplishments especially from 66-83. Recent struggles have washed people's memories, but this book brings it all back to the surface.

Mr. Gesker should be thanked for putting together such a book. For true fans of the team and baseball in general, this is a must have.

    A wonderful resource

Mike Gesker's wonderful Orioles Encyclopedia should come with a a warning label for those who are now or ever were fans of the Baltimore Orioles: You Will Lose Many Hours Out of Your Otherwise Productive Life If You Buy This Book. Open it looking for some fact about some Oriole you remember and the next thing you know several hours will have passed as random thoughts send you scurrying from one entry to another. At each you will be delighted by combination of solid research and entertaining writing. This is not a dull, just-the-facts encyclopedia; it is amusing and insightful, written by someone who is clearly a fan of baseball but not so mesmerized by the game that he cannot poke fun at its foibles. Besides, any book that immortalized the name Drungo Hazewood belongs on the shelf of every Orioles fan.
