Description: This clinical physical therapy reference covers foundational knowledge, orthopedic reasoning, orthopedic pathology, rehabilitation and common clinical questions, and pharmacology.
Purpose: It is intended as a clinical resource that can provide the mentorship that otherwise may not be available. The book does an excellent job of covering the most frequent pathologies in the body in a unique organizational format.
Audience: It is written for graduate students and novice practitioners pursuing a specialty in orthopedics, such as physical therapists, physician assistants, and even physicians. The authors have good knowledge and experience as clinicians and educators in the field of physical therapy.
Features: The book includes definitions, ICD-9 codes, number of optimal visits, etiology, epidemiology and demographics, mechanism, and signs and symptoms. It also provides the possible differential diagnosis, rehabilitation and/or surgical treatment, prognosis, and case studies for each pathology. The book is logically organized, but has only limited anatomical illustrations.
Assessment: This book has a lot to offer to readers beginning in the field of orthopedic rehabilitation. It is user friendly and has a unique style and format. It could also be a quick reference for physicians and clinicians who do not practice and/or have experience in orthopedics.
