Eine Frage um einen der vielen vielschichtigen Begriffe, der nicht nur die politische Theorie, sondern das allgemeine Leben in der Gesellschaft und letztendlich auch das Individuum betrifft. Was ist gerecht? Wie und wann handelt man gerecht? Hat gerechtes Handeln überhaupt einen Nutzen und wenn ja, wie wirkt sich dieser aus? Oder ist Gerechtigkeit am Ende nur eine menschliche Erfindung, die die Unterwerfung einzelner Menschen unter eine Form von positivem Recht überhaupt erst ermöglicht? All diese Fragen, beschäftigen Theoretiker und Philosophen von der Gegenwart zurückreichend bis in die griechische Antike. Die vorliegende Arbeit soll diese zeitliche Entwicklung der verschiedenen Konzeptionen von Gerechtigkeit an zwei paradigmatischen Theorien erkennen, nachvollziehen und vergleichen, helfen und somit einige der hier voran geführten Fragen zu beantworten oder in einer neuen Perspektive erscheinen zu lassen. Die Gerechtigkeitskonzeption in Platons Politeia steht hierbei für die antike, Otfried Höffes Theorie der Gerechtigkeit für eine moderne, zeitgenössische Vorstellung. Basierend auf den beiden Hauptwerken dieser Philosophen, Platons Politeia und Höffes philosophischer Einführung Gerechtigkeit, ist es Aufgabe des Textes die Aktualität Platons anhand der Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in Höffes Theorie auszumachen und zu diskutieren. Vorerst soll hierzu eine Vorstellung des Gerechtigkeitsbegriffes bei Platon helfen, um anschließend dessen Umsetzung oder Abwandlung in Höffes Theorie auch nachvollziehen zu können.
