Finally getting around to catching up with manga series I should be reading instead of starting new series. Anyway, it was nice getting back to this series. The art is pretty good and the cover art is pretty. This volume was good as you get used to the story and its premise and wonder what will happen with Asuka now. While at the same time, you feel for the guy and wonder when those two will get together. Either that, or I really should not put off series I'm currently reading. Though I kind of forgot what happened in the last volume but at least I somewhat remembered whose who, etc.
Okay, to start with the plot is predictable, the characters can by cataloged and the overall problems that arise are easily fixed....as long as you can be okay with who you really are?!?! The story revolves are 3 main characters. The otomen, a guy who has an obsession with everything girly but feels he must hide and suppress those loves b/c his father left his mother to become a woman. So what does every manga character do... join a martial arts club...and kick butt at it as well. Well one day a young girl enters his high school with a little bit of a problem....she cannot do anything girly, cooking, sewing, reading romantic manga,(I could take offense to that myself being a girl who loves to bake but cannot cook, who owns a sewing machine but cannot sew and would rather be dirty outdoors than frilly, but i like romantic manga so i will let that pass). Our otomen falls in love with the girl (whose father by the way runs a dojo) he tries to help her out with her class projects b/c there is a lecher in school who has also spotted her. Well as their love grows our otomens girly side is in trouble of being found out by the entire school, which apparently would kill his mother. Here is the twist, the lecher actually follows around our otomen getting ideas for his popular shojo manga(written under a pen name). so he in turns tries to help the otomen and girl get together for more plot for his story. needless to say they meet a lot more guys in the school and around the neighbor who also have hidden girly obsession and everyone tries to help them overcome and accept their real passion. Alright the plot is formulaic at best, but then most are. I like to read generally the same plot told slightly differently if only because you know how it is going to end,if it ends(takahashi!) If you like the mangas that came from shojo beat mag then you would probably like this one. it does not have the dark magic like vampire knight, there are no demons, vampires, portals or anything out of the ordinary. it is a simple story written in simple times, add in martial arts and a lot of frills(gag). AND YOU HAVE OTOMEN
