WE LIVE TO EAT!!

The first question I would ask my parents when I woke up in the morning was “What’s for dinner tonight?!” Before I even ate my breakfast, I was already thinking about the delicious home-cooked meal that would be waiting for me when I walked in the door from school. It was never a disappointment. Every night, no matter what craziness was going on in our lives, my family always met at our dinner table, NO EXCUSES! As a child I never understood the importance of this, but looking back I cherish the memories at our dinner table. Nothing can bring a family and friends together like cooking a great meal or baking sweet treats in the kitchen. The best part? Sitting at the dinner table to eat your hard work!

Some of Cheryl's favorite recipes, striving to maintain her mantra: Food + Family and Friends = Pure Happiness in my world (add in a little wine or cocktails and I call this heaven on earth!).

Meet the Author

Self-Made Chef, Nurse, Wife, Daughter and most importantly lover of all things delicious!

My mom had me in the kitchen at the young age of 5. We started out with baking, corn muffins were the first thing I remember making. Slowly through the years we worked our way to more complicated recipes…chocolate chip cookies, brownies, cakes. Then as a teenager I was given the task of starting dinner for the family when I got home from school. This is where I really learned the good stuff, mom’s gravy (aka marinara sauce), meatballs, breaded chicken, stir fry, meatloaf….the list goes on and on. Fascinated by the fact that I was responsible for creating bowls and plates filled with flavors and tastes that everyone enjoyed, I never turned back….and made cooking, baking and eating a hobby for life.

When I moved into my first apartment, away from my family, with tears in her eyes, my mother gave me my first set of pots, pans and a cookbook inscribed with a love note… “Cheryl- I hope you enjoy cooking + baking your whole life because of our years in the kitchen together! I love you always- Mommy”. At this point in my life I was comfortable with the basics of cooking and started to experiment by making new dishes or adding different flavors and spices to old favorites. Even as a poor college student, I would spend my last nickels and pennies on ingredients for a new recipe or dish that I wanted to try out.

Once I began working as a nurse, and finally had some money to my name, I was really able to start enjoying my love for cooking, baking and eating. Buying new cookbooks, kitchen tools and watching the food network/cooking channel are the things I indulge in. I still eat dinner with my family at the dinner table and love sharing my new food experiences with friends and family! I got excited at Christmas this past year because my mom gave me a brand new, hot pink (my favorite color) kitchen aid mixer! The best part? The mixer lifts up so I can scrape the bowl without removing it! Gift from Dad and Step-Mom Fran…new Wusthof knives, LOVE! For my birthday my husband brought me to a cooking class at ICE Institute in NYC. So much fun! I finally learned how to cut up an artichoke, something that always scared me when looking at it in the produce section, and make a savory peanut sauce to dip chicken skewers in. This man knows how to keep me a happy wife.
