Our Future in Space

Our Future in Space

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-7-- As described by Berliner, future astronauts may work onboard the international space station Freedom, fly aerospaceplanes that can orbit the Earth, live on the Moon, and visit Mars. Details for each project are based on NASA's own studies and plans. Chapters also include short histories of how the project evolved and descriptions of the required technologies. Books like this, full of beautiful full-color artists' concepts of gee-whizzy future space devices , as well as actual space photos, are intoxicating and appealing. However, they seldom age well; the description of the proposed space station is already dated because engineers and bureaucrats keep redefining the facility, and the other projects exist only on paper. Yet it is just this sort of visionary material that lures students into science and technology. --Alan Newman, American Chemical Society, Washington, DC
