Preface

The following stories are based on the lives of eight children and their parents. Rich in love and caring, the family worked hard during the depression years of the 1930s to keep from losing the farm. Harvesting all kinds of fruits and vegetables to take to the farmer's market, provided the income needed to live. When Dad drove off to the market, the youngest four children, through with packing the produce and putting it on the truck, could play on the farm. That is where the first story begins.

A Must Read For Young Readers

What a charming story,so delightfully told about living on a farm during the depression years. When I was a child growing up in Chicago, living on a farm was my dream. I was an only child so reading Our Growing Up On The Farm made me realize what I missed. It showed that farm life might have been hard work, but it also showed there were fun times too. The humorous antics of the goats, the exciting ride in the old car, the turtle, the rooster's show of authority, the new calf and so many more interesting stories. I have read this book at least five times and liked it more each time. As a former elementary school teacher I find this a perfect book for young children to learn about the farm and how a loving family makes for a happy life.
