Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This book begins with a list of thing to find out on a field trip. Then Mark, a supermarket employee, leads a group of children and adults on a tour. The group observes a stock clerk arranging shelves. They see the produce, meat, dairy, frozen food, and bakery departments. Checkout is explained. Each page has an insert of special facts such as: bananas and apples sell more than any other fruits. The simple line drawings, although brightly colored, show wooden people and are disappointing in a place where so much interesting detail could be included. At the end of the book, there is a menu with directions on how to shop for the needed items. There is a list of Fun Facts such as: the first item scanned in a supermarket was a pack of chewing gum in 1974. There is a glossary, a list of books for further reading, a web site, and an index. This is one of a series of books about field trips. 2004, Picture Window Books, Ages 4 to 9.
