Guitarist, composer, and arranger Peter Hand's 2014 big-band album, Out of Hand, is a rollicking date showcasing saxophonist Houston Person. The album follows up Hand's previous big-band outing, 2009's equally as compelling The Wizard of Jazz: A Tribute to Harold Arlen. As with that release, Out of Hand features a bevy of adept musicians, including saxophonist Don Braden, trumpeter Valery Ponomarev, and others, tackling a bluesy, urbane mix of standards and originals.
