Desperate to break free...

I've spent my entire life under my father's thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don't inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I'm ready to step out of line. And even worse? I'm living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case...

The truth will cost me everything.

Key word of the day? LOVE. You will probably see it a lot in this review. First and foremost....I loved this book. Like Love Loved it!! It had everything I wanted in a good book. It had the characters I love, a storyline that screamed trouble, and the romance I crave. Lots of steamy, forbidden, pent up romance. This author definitely has me hooked on this series and I am impatiently waiting for more. I will be on the lookout for more of her work, too. I knew the minute I started it I was going to love these characters. Take for instance Carrie. Even with how she was raised, she wasn't your typical spoiled brat. Her parents raised her right, although albeit over protectively. Carrie is sweet, kind, and always thinking of others. But she is still just a girl looking to find herself out and away from her father's shadows. And then enters Finn. Yes, Finn. Love this guy something fierce and love that he was absolutely infuriating, always trying to pick on Carrie (in a fun, flirty way). He definitely brings out her feisty side that is for sure. But these two together was explosive and fun and intense. They had such a wonderful connection and energy from the start and it remained as they battled through the rough parts. Even through it all, the energy stayed a constant, ever present force between the two of them. They could deny it all they wanted, but it was there. Front and center. And what can I say about this story line? Well, I can tell you I loved the whole idea from the start to ending. Yes, I even loved the ending. Yes, I do realize it was a huge cliffhanger...but knowing there is more to come, well, I am ok with that. What I am not ok with is having to wait so long. Not a fan of cliffys? Maybe you should wait closer to the 2nd book's release so you can go straight in to it once you finish this one. Speaking of book 2…I am so scared for these two. Once you finish you will understand. So much can happen in that one with all they have to face. One being her father and another centers around the cliffhanger. I am scared but hoping for the best that it will all work out in the end. Must keep the faith. Would I recommend this book to you? Abso-frickin-lutely!! I'd be a fool to deny others of this amazing, infuriating, romantic story. So get out there and getcha some. Then you can thank me later.

Loved Carrie's and Finn's story! Carrie, daughter of a very protective politican, is very generous and caring of other despise coming from wealth. Coming from Washington, Carrie starts college in Cali. Her very protective dad hires Finn, (hot) Marine/Surfer to watch over Carrie and protect her while she's away but when she found him lurking in the shadows, things went further then it should have and as hard as he tried to stay away, he just couldn't and fell for Carrie. Hard. Def one of my favorite reads! No terrible cliffhangers although there's something yet to come! Def worth more then the .99c spent! Can't wait for the second book!

This book evoked so many FEELS, it was crazy. Coming from an overprotective family myself, I can definitely empathize with what Carrie went through-although my parents weren't as strict, then again I wasn't the senator's daughter lol. The way she felt about college-being far enough away to start over but then also missing home-is exactly how I felt. I love that she was such a kind and trusting person, always seeing the best in people. Finn, I also really liked because let's just face it, he sounds down right sexy-a marine with tattoos, loves to surf, can cook, is patience and kind? *SWOON* Their story is unbelievably cute, and the friendship that they formed plus the sizzling attraction made this book so addicting. The dual narrative of this story definitely provided insights that would have been lost if done any other way, and both Carrie and Finn have such strong voices that they made me see things from two different points of view and I found myself torn between compassion for Carrie and sympathize for Finn.  That ending...WHY, WHY, WHY JEN MCLAUGHLIN? Why do you torture me so? I can't wait for the second book, like literary I want that book in my hands now >:( I can't believe I've grown to care so much about these characters and their happiness, and the anticipation to find out what will happen to them is torturous. Although the title for the next book Out of Time kind of makes me nervous. Like what is the author trying to hint? That their time together will be running out soon? Because that's just horrible :( things just started to get happy again, and I feel the rug being pulled from underneath my feet. Then again, I guess I will have to wait and see...

For all you woman out there, that like a sexy tattooed Marine who will make your heart throb, this is a book for you! It's a sweet story about Finn and Carrie who meet in a weird coincidental way after a frat party. Carrie has only wanted to enjoy her college years to the fullest, but she's been a senator's daughter, and has been scrutinized and judged before she can open her mouth. Can't she live a normal life despite her last name?  Carrie is a good girl, with a good head on her shoulders and no intention of becoming anyone other than who she already is. The only thing holding her back is the constant surveillance she's under because of her fathers position as senator.  Finn is the one to give her the normalcy she's looking for. Even though he first thought Carrie was a rich snobby girl who lived in riches, he soon realizes his first impression of her is completely wrong, and stops fighting the love he feels for her. You'll soon read about how he is a mother watering sex god that will induce dirty thoughts and wet panties. Carrie and Finn are clearly meant to be together. You don't have that kind of chemistry without being meant for one another.  The story line flows great and the author gives you a great sense of who the characters are, and I could clearly picture them in all their half naked glory. It captivated me from the beginning and I read the book from cover to cover in one sitting. It's fast paced, and keeps you wanting more after each paragraph. I give this book 5/5, but be warned, it's full of R rated scenes that will have you melting as you get to know these two characters.

I really liked this book but I hate cliffhangers. I also don'tl like the fact there is no title to even look for the next book, I doubt I will read more by her if this is her norm; even tho I really enjoyed all 450 pages. GJRA

Supposed cliff hanger at the end. Not to difficult to guess what the bad news is. Okay for $0.99 but not worth a penny more.

This was one of my first New Adult romances. I don't generally read this category because I feel they are a bit too revealing in certain areas and sometimes that is a turn off for me as a reader. I was really surprised with Out of Line. The story had me hooked from the first chapter and the premise was great. The synopsis of the story grabbed me while shopping in the NOOK store and I thought, "Why not?! This sounds interesting." McLaughlin does not let the reader down that is for sure. The story was so engrossing, intriguing, and suspenseful I finished this book in record time for me! 3 days! I had to keep putting it down for work and home stuff and couldn't wait to go back to it to see what would happen next. McLaughlin definitely has a way of writing her characters that keeps the reader involved and invested in the story. I don't want to give too much away of the story, but watching how McLauglin begins the attraction between Finn and Carrie and then has Finn try to figure out how to reveal his "living a lie" situation to Carrie is quite involved and keeps you on the edge of your seat. You turn the pages wondering, "How is he going to tell her? How is he going to solve this problem?" All while simultaneously rooting for them to stay together. Lastly, I thought that characters were very true to life and I enjoyed the story tremendously. 5/5 stars! Check it out!
