Overview

Take everything you've ever known about mysteries, and get ready to toss it out the window. Preferably at the neighbor who stole your newspaper this morning. Go on. We'll wait here.

This story is a spoof of murder mysteries and courtroom dramas, with a bit of science fiction thrown in. It is told, well, out of order. Hence the title. Because of that, the victim finds out ahead of time that he may be murdered and has a chance to take evasive action. Naturally, things don't go well.

Many of the characters come to realize they are not in real life, but have been caught up in "a stupid Uncle Bert story." Yet, they know the only way out is to proceed through the story to the end. Action alternates back and forth between courtroom drama and events happening outside the courtroom. And some actions even happen before other actions start. Or end. Or, in the middle of other actions.

Who will live, who will die and who will escape having to end up in another one of Bert's stories? Will anyone actually get to go on vacation? Whodunit?

A laugh-out-loud, madcap short story.

Meet the Author

I grew up in and around Titusville, PA. I graduated Titusville High School as valedictorian in 1977.
I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA, 1981, with a double
major in math and computer science. Worked for a large computer company for 24 years as software
developer, software tester, and information developer (technical writer). I was laid off and am now working
as a technical writer for another company.

I like to claim that my short stories are the result of exposing my brain for too long to
corporate America. I started writing the stories for my sister's kids when they were
little so they'd have something different from Uncle Bert. Then I decided to start writing again
after a long hiatus (due to hectic work schedule and other issues). A former co-worker suggested
I see if I could get any of them published.

I have lived in Raleigh, NC since 1983, when the company I worked for transferred me here. I visit
my home town occasionally, but consider Raleigh "home" now. I hate cold weather, snow, and ice.

I spend my spare time reading, writing, watching old movies, hunting for my reading glasses
or car keys, and taking the occasional out-of-town trip for fun. I am blessed with some good friends,
but never met my "Mr. Right". (Had some fun with some of the Mr. Wrongs, though.) I have lived
in the same house for 26 years (all paid for now!) and own too many cars. (Love the '77 Monte
Carlo....looks like new.)
