Overview

In a world made nearly perfect by man's enlightened progress, an ancient, hungry apocalypse slithers from the shadows and onto the clean, brightly-lit streets. Though few realize anything is wrong, it's already too late: Too late for the authorities to face this new threat, for science to discover a cure, for the world's warriors to gear up to fight. It is humanity's swan song and the fat lady's on the stage and clearing her throat. Now it's up to five damaged strangers: A homicide detective, a lonely nurse, a college student, his insecure girlfriend, and a methodical killer with the heart of a child. Now it is the perfect society's misfits who must piece together the mystery and find the courage to stand together against impossible odds. Sometimes destiny falls unexpected into the most broken lives, like a careless brick fallen out of the clear black sky.

I asked some facebook friends for recommendations for 'stuff to read' and this book was suggested by a good friend. I had no idea what it was about, but it was $2.99 on the Nook. Outside of borrowing a book from the library, I have to say "Out of the Black" was undeniably the best bang for the buck ever. The characters are thoroughly enjoyable. I have already picked the actress to play Ann (the gal who plays Zoe on 'Nurse Jackie'). The dialog was engaging, and the not-so-subtle reference to pop culture was fabulous. And, while all of that is goodness, it's the action sequences that really pulled me in. Superbly written - I was literally shifting in my seat as I read them to avoid the bullets and blades :) I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan (and this isn't necessarily a Sci-Fi book in the purest sense), and had it not been for the reco from my friend I would have passed on this book. But, I am so glad I didn't.

Outstanding! I was told about your book from a friend of mine. She liked it very much so I purchased the e-book and couldn't put it down. I'm an avid reader, I'll burn through 2 to 3 books per week so I know what works for me. Your book immerses you in the plot almost like your a fly on the wall and the action is unfolding right in front of you. You have avoided the standard, cookie cutter plot lines in favor of a multi-threaded, character driven one that ties together nicely for the grand finale. The character interaction is well written and believable. I didn't get "what was REALLY going on" until 3/4 of the way through and even when the hidden players came into the light you didn't know exactly where the story was going but you knew there was going to be some kind of "train wreck" at the end. I highly recommend this book! Well done, Lee!!
