'Out of the Closet' takes up right after Tempering. The Jarheads are civilians now - out of the closet and heading for their new home in California. The boys have some work to do on their little house on the beach and Rig has his new job with the Johnson Clinic waiting for him. But the boys need to take care of the important things first - like enjoying a 'welcome home' in their new home - Jarhead style. Sean beautifully and lovingly describes the boys first night in their home and as they sit on their deck enjoying their 'Jack in the Box' dinner, Rock watches 'the sun setting in Rig and Richard's eyes.' I love these guys. I don't think I will ever tire of Rig's 'Y'all' and the boy's three-way kisses. Or Rock's growls and Richard's soft voice. Rig has a little time before he starts work, Richard's between things (no pun intended) and Rock's retired, so there's plenty of time for lovin' and swimmin' and playin'. If I wasn't already in love with the guys, this book would have hooked my heart - hook, line and sinker - as the boys adjust to their new roles. Rigger's settling in as a physician's assistant after a frustrating start. And Rock and Richard are opening their own business - a community friendly gym. But there's heartbreak ahead for us and Rigger, as Rigger faces a devastating loss. After reading the reviews, it seems the Jarhead series can be a hit or miss kinda thing for some people. Reading from the beginning, I've grown to love these guys. There is a lot of explicit lovin' and I mean a lot, but there are those moments that just grab at your heart and won't let go - like Richard's letter from home and the loss of a four-footed friend. Sean really captured what it's like for someone new to California (and I'm speaking from experience): the vibrant sunsets, the seasonal weather, the first-time earthquakes and the open friendliness. We get a deeper glimpse into their emotional relationship and the interconnecting relationships within the threesome. Their physical attraction has always been strongly portrayed, but here we see how they pull together and support each other as they deal with conflict, heartache and the changes. We saw a bit of this in Tempering, now it's stronger. Rigger's family is an important part of this series and his family plays an important role in this installment. If you're a fan of the other books, this one shouldn't be missed.
