“How can everything feel so familiar when I haven’t been here before…”

This is the dilemma facing Emma Tanner on a buying trip to Charleston, SC for her antiques store in Texas. Can the déjà vu feelings have anything to do with that new acquisition in the store back home and the strange vibes that came with it? And why does Emma have the uneasy feeling of being followed, yet when she looks over her shoulder, no one is there?

Emma and her business partner, Sharon, meet quite a cast of characters while in Charleston. During their visit, Emma is haunted by visions of a past that isn’t hers. Much to the chagrin of her partner, Mandy, Emma decides to remain behind in Charleston in order to get to the bottom of her experiences. Emma soon learns that each of her new friends can interpret bits and pieces of the visions for her, but one in particular offers more answers than the others. During her extended stay, the story of events that happened during the late 1880s unfold for Emma, events that force her to re-evaluate her own life in the here and now and her floundering relationship with Mandy.

From the vivid scenic descriptions, I could visualize the characters and their surroundings. Like watching a film.

There is a lot of emotion and heartache radiating off the pages, both in the past and the present. The story has been written with sympathy and understanding by the author.

After I’d finished this book, I found myself going back over certain parts of it again. The story and the characters have made a deep impression on me.

Meet the Author

Glenda Poulter and her partner Lisa live in the thriving metropolis of Lizard Lick, NC, between Wendell and Zebulon, just outside of Raleigh. Life in Lizard Lick is quiet but Glenda's and Lisa's house is often the scene of four-legged pandemonium when their four cats and one dog get a hair and go on a rampage at the same time.
Glenda has been writing for as long as she can remember, but has only in the past five years put her mind to writing and publishing novels. Out of the Past is her second published novel, but she has four more in progress and many other ideas recorded in various notebooks and journals. She also enjoys writing poetry, some of which are included in the anthology, Tulips Touching, edited by Beth Mitchum.
The writing muse isn't Glenda's only muse. Photography, collage, watercolor and fiber arts are among Glenda's other creative endeavors.
Please visit Glenda's website, www.GlendaPoulter.com, to read some of her short stories and see some of her artwork and photography. She would also love to hear from you personally. Email her at .

I don't usually read books in the paranormal category, but Out of the Past is so much more than that. The plot is riveting--traveling back and forth from the past to the present with ease.  The characters are intriguing and well developed. Poulter weaves a compelling story that is tough to put down. Part mystery, part lesbian romance, part paranormal, part historical--Out of the Past is all of these and is also just an all-around fantastic read. I'm looking forward to seeing more from this author.
