Devon will do anything to protect his little sister from becoming a breeder, even if it means starting a war. After fleeing home in the middle of the night, Devon and his siblings seek refuge with his uncle. There he meets the fiery human, Lark. She is a temptation, one he can’t afford. As battle lines are drawn, Devon’s alpha instincts take over, and he must fight to keep the ones he loves safe, especially the woman who has stolen his heart.

Lark Davies has put her heart and soul into her bakery, The Cookie Jar. She doesn’t have time for dating or a social life, but she is happy to spend her free time at the Harris Ranch. She knows the ranch occupants are werewolves, but they are family. When Devon Harris appears at the ranch, Lark instantly butts heads with him. Even if they can’t seem to get along, there is something intriguing about him. She’s known werewolves have existed for some time, but she never knew just how dangerous their world was.

Its a good story, but the middle does get boring- kind of poor management of interest flow; other parts are too fast. The grammar is bad: a lot of wrong use of words, overuse of phrases and unnatural speaking styles.

Good story. Don't know why, but midway it seemed to drag out. Needs better proofreading.

The characters in 'Out of the Shadows a Werewolf Wars Novel' were strong and intriguing. The interaction between the characters was good and the mix of action and interaction within the story was well balanced.  Most important to me as a reader ‘Out of the Shadows’ kept my interest.  This is the first book by Bethany Shaw and I am ready for the next book in the Werewolf Wars Series.  Bethany Shaw is an author whose books I will put on my short list anytime I am looking for my next book to read.

What a clever writer! I thoroughly enjoyed my first novel by Mrs. Shaw. I found her characterizations to be interesting and her story line intriguing. This is definatly a series of books I will puchase and read. Thanks so much for this free book. Without it, I'm not sure I'd have taken a chance on it. This genre is fairly new to me. I have read many different styles of books and usually find many I enjoy, no matter their type. If you can take shifters as a fact of life, the whole story is plausable and hard to put down. Thank goodness it is summer! There is time for teachers to read!

The story is good and the characters are interesting. However it could have been much better if the author had paid attention in elementary school about verb tenses and sentence structure. The poor grammar stopped me from enjoying the story. Why did she not hire a proof reader? Why did she not learn when to use "I" and when to use "me"??? What does "He knelt his head down on Rick's body..." even mean? "Lark sprung into action" should have been "sprang". He drugged her, should have been he "dragged" her. "I" is not always the correct word......she gave cookies to Sarah and ME, not to Sarah and I!!!!! If you use the preposition "to" then you need to use the objective form of the pronoun (me or her, for example). He gave it to me. Or "He gave it to Sarah and me" not to Sarah and I. (Yes, I have partial sentences in this rant. But I am not writing a book to be published and one that I hope will sell. ) In other words, I give the story idea a 4 to 5 stars. But I give the word choice and grammar a 2, for the many, many errors. Where were her helpers? Someone wrote that she read an early version of the book. Why did that person not help the author correct the poor grammar?

One of the better free Nook books I've read in awhile. I love a storyline where the 2 protagonists greatly dislike each other in the beginning, but grow to love each other in the end. I agree with other reviewers that felt it dragged in the middle. The book seems like it will never end and I even felt the ending was lacking. Overall, there really wasn't anything wrong with the book so if you have the time then I recommend reading it.

This is a wonderful first book. I look forward to reading all the others in this series. Outside of a few problems with grammer & spelling this book is pretty perfect.

Tis story has a little bite of everthing, shifters falling in love, fighting for love and fighting to be free. Four shifters run from a bad alpha that is thier dad. They find freedom with a uncle. The oldest fall in love with a human, dad comes after daughter to sell to some bad guys. Kidnappes two human sisters. Kill the uncle save girls fall in love. So if this sounds good to read if not, well this a free country so good for you. I so can not wait to read the rest of these books!!!!!! L.J.B.

I loved the story!  Devon escapes his father and flees to his uncle.  He is very protective of those he loves so his takes his siblings and a friend with him.  Devon has no interest in finding his mate. Lark is also devoted to her sister who she raised when their parents died.  Between work and caring for her sister, she has no time for a romantic involvement. When Devon and Lark meet, it is a love/hate relationship.  Which will win...love or hate?   This book has it all:  drama, action, suspense, romance, bickering and, most of all, love.  Read and enjoy!

Out of the Shadows the first in the Werewolf Wars series.  Devon and his siblings, Vincent and Emily, and friend, Marcus, escape from his stepfather Emmett's pack where things had grown intolerable.  Having nowhere else to go, they head for his Uncle Rick's ranch, where Rick is Alpha of his pack. Rick agrees to give them sanctuary, despite the danger that will now be brought down on his pack.  He agrees that Emmett is going way too far and must be dealt with.  Feisty Lark is a human who has known about the wolves for a long time and, in fact, her sister is dating one of Rick's sons.  While Devon deals with his past and fights his attraction to Lark, Emmett needs Emily back and will stop at nothing to get her.    Out of the Shadows is an easy to read story which is hard to put down once you get into it.  The characters, and secondary characters, are engaging and the plot is well done.  A great set-up to a new series (Gifted a copy for for independent review)

Out of the Shadows is an interesting read. I really enjoyed the way the characters were developed. The show courage, strength, love and comittment to each other and their families. Lark is raising her younger sister after her parents pass away and she owns her own bakery. Devon is a werewolf who has a rough upbringing and would do anything to protect his younger sister, even go against his family and pack. Devon and his sister and two younger brothers flee their home and go to Texas to find sanctuary with Devon's uncle Rick. They face numerous dangers. Devon finds that he is attracted to young Lark and is fighting his feeling because of the war that is coming from his stepfather and his pack. Devon has some definate issues he needs to work through from his past and he doesn't really want to envolve a human girl in his past or what is coming in his near future. However, the attraction he has to Lark is something he just can't avoid. There is plenty of adventure and some really hot scenes. This book is an excellent read and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book in the series. I definately recommend this read and really enjoyed it. I was given this book and just asked to give an honest review.

This story was packed with action, romance, and drama. It was an awesome read.I really enjoyed the plot line and the story. The character were great. I love the love they had for one another to save each other. They really developed with the story and you got to know them. It had its up and down where you were feeling what the characters felt as they were experiencing them. This is definitely a story that can get stuck in your head and that you will keep wanting to experience. I also enjoyed learning about the sisters and how they both are in love with the two men. Devon seemed the perfect mate for Lark and the same could be said about Lark to Devon. I also enjoyed Emily and Marcus in the story. I love how comical and charming Vincent was in the story as well. All the characters made this story great. It also had some surprises that were in store that even made it better. I can't wait till I read the next book in the story. I can't wait to see who is the traitor that is in their midst. I look forward to learning more about Gene and in the next story. If you love paranormal, romance, and drama then I suggest you check this book out.

Riveting, action packed and Entertaining The first book of a series is a well written and extremely enjoyable book to read.  Some very originally story line Ideas in this book.   Even thought this is part of a series this story has an ending that makes it a self contained book.  But it does leave you wanting more and to see how things will progress in the werewolf wars. Loved all the actions and character interplay with the unexpected twists.   Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.  Great job to the author.  I won a copy from the author

Rating 3.5/5 stars This was a very spontaneous read.  Out of the shadows is an enjoyable read. There are some great unique elements to the story but also a lot of predictability. Werewolf books can sometimes be a hit and miss for me but this was not the case with Out of the Shadows. For anyone for who loves a good werewolf novel and a broody alpha male mixed with romance - this book is for you! Characters & Story line: 3.5/5 Bethany creates good strong characters. The story line is interesting and takes you on a few emotional twists and turns. Lark and Devon's romance was a bit predictable. Devon being the strong, brooding, wounded alpha with some issues - who keeps people at bay and Lark who is strong, compassionate and challenges him. They have a steamy and unexplainable attraction with a few steamy scenes. They definitely grow on you as the story progresses - by the last half of the book I was definitely rooting for them.  Emily and Marcus are such a sweet couple and you are rooting for them from the beginning. Vincent is one of my favourite characters - he is your lone wolf, flirty, younger (brother) wolf. He is observant, caring, cheeky and entertaining. Gene is a great character in the book. He is kind and strong. He plays a stronger part in the latter part of the book and I am really looking forward to his role in 'Into the Unknown'.  Plot, Pace, Writing style: 3.5/5   Bethany has a great pace and a nice writing style. The plot was intriguing and kept you reading to see what happens next - even though the predictability did slow things down a bit for me. The ending left quite a bit to work with in the next book. Final Thoughts:  Although I am not immediately one-clicking to buy the next sequel I am really intrigued to see Gene & Talia's story, as well as what the Gulf packs have planned for Lark and Sarah.

I'm not sure whether I will ever be able to read enough shifter books and certainly if they keep being written at this standard I know I won't, the first in a new series it certainly sets the whole tone and an extremely high level for any following books. While werewolf lore doesn't change significantly from book to book every author puts their on spin on it which gives it a fresh appeal. And the characters are what really make the book alive and they certainly come alive under the writing of Bethany Shaw. This is a romance but although you know as soon as they meet who the romance will be between it takes them a while longer, it is not a lets meet and bam together book, they both know but Devon has a lot of issues to work through and Lark still feel responsible for her sister so this is a slow boil romance but when they finally get there it's white hot. Devon is an alpha who has never had a chance to become one, his stepfather has kept him under his heel but finally when Emmett has gone too far, Devon knows that he needs to get his half sister to safety, coming along are half brother and his sisters mate, this sets into motion the events of the story and lead Devon to become an alpha as he was born to. He struggles with his feelings for Lark as he is so focused on protecting his family that he can't think about his wants and needs. Lark isn't sure what she is feeling, a human caught up in the supernatural world she cannot read Devon who is hot and cold but "He awakened something inside her that she'd never realised as there. Even though they often butted heads, Devon made her a better person. Pushed her to do things she would never have done before. He made her question her future and are her want more from it." I think that is what love should do for us make us want to strive and be one better people. And although it ends on a sort of happily for now it is by no means a HEA as the story says "Even though Lark knew hey were nowhere out of anger yet, right now in this moment everything was perfect. They would deal with tomorrow when it came."  An extremely enjoyable read if you like shifter books then this is one that shouldn't be missed, and can't wait for the following books. I received a free copy for an honest review.
