Overview

In the early years it had been: 'You are too young to understand, dear, and it is yet too painful for me to discuss, Isabel. Someday, when you are grown.' Isabel waited. At length the excuse became altered, turning back upon itself. 'That was all so long ago, Isabel. Why talk of the past now? Both your parents are gone. Dragging them out of the shadows and dusting off their memories won't bring them back again.' At this point, Aunt Gwen would wrinkle her nose in distaste. 'You may uncover things are better left hidden. No. I cannot answer your questions.' Isabel Emerson can't take her spinster aunt's cruelty any longer. It is definitely time for a change, time to find out who she really is. And thus, Isabel sails the Atlantic to England and a small girls' school in Yorkshire, a town that is hauntingly familiar to Isabel. There she meets the dashing Damien Phillips, his secretive older brother Seymour, the loveable yet odd and neglected Willie John, and a cast of other characters who will become both enchanting and maddening to young Isabel. Out of the Shadows, which is among Susan Evans McCloud's best work, is a fast-moving story of romance, suspense, and intrigue. Readers will quickly grow attached to this strong-willed girl and champion her cause to move on in life by discovering the truth of her family's past and the reason behind Aunt Gwen's bitterness. Isabel will be both startled and moved by her discovery, and readers won't be able to put the book down until they, too, know the truth about Isabel's parentage and realize the promises of her future.

    Shadows of Day chapter ?~Lilyblaze

The forest smell hit her nose. That's not right. The WindCn stench never hit her. A gray she-cat padded over to her. "Dovewing?" Lilyblaze asked. "Oh hello" the she-cat grinned. "I am sorry but, I'm not Dovewing". "Oh who are you?" Lilyblaze asked. "Call me Cancer. I am named after a deadly twoleg sickness." The loner replied. "I'm Lilyblaze" Lilyblaze replied "why am I not in camp?". "Fox attack. ThunderClan was worriedthat you would get more injured and I asked to watch over you" Cancer flickered her tail. "I wanted to help after seeing that poor she-cat die". " You mean Skytail?!" Lilyblaze gasped. "I dunno" Cancer shrugged. "What happened?" Lilyblaze asked eagerly. A witness! Skytail's murderer can be found! A flicker of surprise went across her eyes. "I saw this big white om stalk Skytail. She trned and he pinned her down. She tried to scream and he raked his claws agasint her flank. He bit down and she shrugled a bit then stopped. He ran and I went to see if she was okay then left. I figured she was a rouge and the white tom was in this clan. He had large black paws" Cancer recalled. "That's no ThunderClan cat! That's Blackstar, leader of ShadowClan! Why was it further in territory?" Lilyblaze meowed excitdly. "I tried to move it closer t camp and decided if I go any further, you would think I murdered her" Cancer explained. "That's great! We can attack ShadowClan and they will never kill another ThunderClan warrior again!" Lilyblaze exlaimed. A look of triumph shone in her eyes. She was oviously happy to help out Skytail's murderer search. "I'm glad I could help" Cancer meowed. "You better rest. I-". A low growl cut her off. Cacer turned around. A pure white she-cat with golden ees stalked out. "Cancer! What are you doing with that- that- thing!" Se hissed. "Calm down. She's a friend" Cancer replied. "A friend! Rememer Yellow eyes-". "Your mother was a clan cat?" Lilyblaze interupted. "No! We used to be house-cats. We were named after sicknesses. Our mother i named after an unknown sickness where humans eyes turn yellow. I am named Polio. Cancer is named Cancer. Our broher is named Turberculoses(is that spelled right?)" Polio explained. "Yellow Eyes told us. TRUST NO ONE BUT OUR FAMILY AND OURSELF!". "I'm trustworthy" Lilyblaze defended herself. "Well, maybe" Polio meowed thoughtfully. She seemed suddenly delighted. "Sorry about that sudden mood swing" Polio meowed. "I am bipolar. I am feeling one thing then another". Cancer glared at her."I gotta go" Polio meowed. Se leaped throught the undergrouth. "As I said, you might as well sleep. Tomarrow will be a busy day!" Cancer meowed. "What do you mean?" Lilyblaze asked. "Oh tommarrow we're going in!"? "To camp?". "Of course! Where else would we. ShadowClan?" Lilyblaze sighed. She settled down and watched Cancer intently. Trust no one but your family and yourself Polio had said. Cancer seemed everyting but trustworty. How a loner seemd deligted to tell ThunderClan that ShadowCn has murdered a warrior. In fact, her and Polio's scent was familiar. She sented it before but Lilyblaze couldn't recall where. "Go to sleep" Cancer called. Lilyblaze couldn't argue. She had to sleep. When tomarrow came.. whatever came with it. She would be ready to stop it. It or Cancer.....
