Fifteen-year-old Beric feels increasingly bitter isolation when, because of his Roman birth, he is cast out by the Celtic tribe that raised him and, after reaching a Roman settlement, he is sold into slavery and sentenced to serve in a galley for the rest of his life.

Outcast tells the story of Beric, a boy fostered by British tribes in the days when the Roman empire spread to Britain. Beric is cast out of his tribe though- and then enslaved, becomes a runaway... all the while looking for a place to belong. This book is a pretty easy read, full of action at every turn of the page. Some parts of the story do seem to drag out- typical Sutcliff- but the whole book is amazing! However, in my good opinion... the story lacks a little romance... but that's just me. Still a wonderful book!
