Gorgeous photos and plenty of solid advice for photographers

If you¿re interested in outdoor glamour photography, this could be one of the most useful books you¿ll ever read. Lemon¿s book is packed full of specific and practical tips for experienced photographers alongside beautifully artistic sample photographs taken by Lemon himself. Lemon opens with a brief introduction that gives an overview of some of his general techniques: he details how he uses his light meter, how he measures and perfects white balance, and why he shoots in fine JPEG as opposed to a raw format. The rest of the book consists of photos accompanied by information about how Lemon set up and achieved various effects in the shoot. For each photograph, Lemon explains the lighting used, why the location was chosen, and information about the pose chosen for the model. A small sidebar box gives the camera, lens, shutter speed, and F-stop used. Woven throughout Lemon¿s descriptions are helpful tips on every imaginable aspect of photography from how to best use a polarizing filter to how to take into account texture and color when choosing a background for a model. The photos included in the book are spectacular. All feature female models in various stages of undress (from completely nude to fully clothed) posed against every possible background¿woods, grassy fields, old logs, rusted pick-ups, barns, haystacks, and corrugated metal walls. Most of the pictures are a full page in size a few are impressive two-page spreads. Some of the photos may strike photographers as a bit too Playboy in style, but for the most part, they are tasteful and quite artistic. Lemon is clearly a talented photographer and Outdoor Glamour Photography gives enough information to help aspiring photographers benefit from his wealth of experience.

Advice veterans and novices can use

Some people like to read books on glamour photography because they¿re interested in the technical aspects. Some people read those same books because they¿re interested in composition. Some just like looking at pictures of attractive models, often attractive nude models. All three groups of readers, as well as anyone with any level of interest in glamour photography, would be smart to pick up a copy of Bill Lemon¿s Outdoor Glamour Photography: The Complete Digital Guide to Taking Successful Outdoor Glamour Photographs, as Lemon has written a sharp, detailed and user-friendly guide to the subject. Lemon, an experienced photographer and teacher, has put together a nuts-and-bolts guide to the field from which novices and veterans alike can glean useful information. Every photo comes with a brief description of the technical details¿including shutter speed, f-stop and lens used, as well as light meter readings¿as well as a narrative section where Lemon explains his thoughts and experiences on image composition, working with models, tips on using different aspects of the environment, pre-planning and more. What¿s more, he explains all these various considerations in a breezy, engaging style that invites readers into his thought processes without drowning in technical terms and concepts. As the copious photos demonstrate, Lemon knows of what he speaks, and is more than happy to share his knowledge and experience. In an age of digital cameras and point-and-shoot as common practice, it¿s refreshing to gain an insight into a professional who puts a great deal of thought and planning into his work. Even without his thorough and useful narratives, Lemon¿s gorgeous work speaks for itself, but when paired with Lemon¿s valuable experience, the entire package becomes a must-have for fans of photography in general. Even the occasional text error that slipped by the copy edit stage can¿t detract from the book¿s obvious value and worth. If you¿ve ever wanted more from your photographs than simply documenting a moment, Lemon¿s worthy guide should be on your shelf right away.

    Excellent information on Lighting/Composure

Outdoor Glamour Photography was interesting to read and study the principle of utilizing only outdoor or natural lighting. The book has excellent photography examples that are clearly labeled for beginner to advanced photographer to follow along and create their own photos using natural lighting. The book explores composition for shots, lighting, exposure, and all of the fundamentals needed to create beautiful photography. The author describes in great detail how to pose, how models for the best shot, how to choose locations, and hints about how to recreate certain shots. For each picture, there is a breakdown of the F-stop, shutter speed, camera, and lens, which allows for a variety of cameras that will create diversity to photographers and light exposure. The book was very informational and will give every reader some great ideas to take out shooting.

Far more than a book with beautiful pictures

When I first acquired this book, I thought â⿬ſHeh, this will prove to be an interesting photography album, a nice collection of outdoor glamour shotsâ⿬. As the reading progressed, that first initial thought was more and more challenged. As an amateur photographer myself, and interested in all things beautiful to capture on camera, that would have sufficed. But as luck had it, Iâ⿬⿢ve stumbled upon not only a tasteful nudes book, but a guide to creating outstanding outdoor glamour photographs, as proven by the hefty amount of skill involved in creating the book. Hereâ⿬⿢s why. Shot with Nikon D200, Nikon D100 and Nikon D300, the photographs are taken with absolutely no artificial lighting, using only natural light. Each photograph is accompanied by a page detailing the time of day and year when it was taken, the equipment used and tips and tricks in taking such an image. So not only do you get to enjoy art at its finest, but you also learn the tricks from a master of his trade. Practically, youâ⿬⿢ll learn everything you know in creating a photograph such as the one youâ⿬⿢ve just admired. The book even talks about the special relationship between photographer and model, and how to get your models to do outstanding things. In some rare instances, Bill Lemon even talks about the mistakes of that certain photograph, and what could have been done to make it even better. All in all, Iâ⿬⿢m giving Bill Lemonâ⿬⿢s â⿬ſOutdoor Glamour Photographyâ⿬ a solid rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The reason for this has mainly to do with my own tastes, as I prefer shots taken in a more urban or surprising landscape, and all of the photographs in the book are taken in a rural, idyllic setting. That is not to say that they are boring, far from it, as their composition and location are outstandingly beautiful, but more that they donâ⿬⿢t suit my current photography pursuits.

A photographer that offers workshops to aspiring photographers, Bill Lemon offers this book that showcases his talent of shooting mostly nude models in beautiful, outdoor, rustic settings while offering tips on lighting, model placement and location. Although the models are nude, the book offers much more than just viewing pleasure. Lemon goes into such detail as to often mention he doesn¿t like to crop limbs off his models and feature photos from his Blue Shirt Project, where the models each don the same blue, denim shirt for her close-up. Lemon even tells readers the camera, lens, shutter speed, f-stop and model name for each picture. Overall, this is a wonderful book, possibly a secret coffee table edition, for any photographer looking to capture the female form in its glory. Star rating: 5
