Here is the true-life story of Richard "Deadeye" Hayes in all its bad-ass, balls-to-the-wall glory. I always hoped he was kidding.

One of the last true Outlaw Bikers, Deadeye knows what it means to be a man, take shit from no one, and have tattoos that actually say something. Riding, drug dealing, and sending men to the hospital with his bare hands, Deadeye made himself a legend among bikers-all the while making sure his daughters never got mixed up with guys like him.

Meet the Author

Richard "Deadeye" Hayes grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota, and learned at an early age that the confines of school and authority bored him. To alleviate this minor problem, he created much larger ones such as bar fights, gunfights, knife fights, fistfights, drugs, drug dealers, drug dealing, and dealing in stolen goods. It is an understatement to say that Deadeye enjoys adventure and values a sense of humor. He currently serves as president of the Los Valientes Motorcycle Club. He lives in South St. Paul, Minnesota.

Mary Gardner is the author of Salvation Run, Boat People, and two other novels. A former Woodrow Wilson Fellow with a master's degree in English from the University of Chicago, she teaches at the Loft, a community writing center in Minneapolis. Her shorter work has been published in The New York Times, Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and Friends Journal. In the winter she lives in St. Paul; she spends summers in her cabin in northwestern Minnesota.

    Really enjoyed it. One of the few books about bikers I actually saw a likeable side

    I was pleasantly surprised a autobiography abut a biker that wasn't all bar fights, drug dealing, and run from the cops stories. We actually got a glimpse into his life, and his feelings. This is the story of the regular guy who becomes a biker. I think it took a lot of balls to open up and actually say what most guys are feeling but would never say out loud. All to often in memoirs we get a I¿am so sorry slant on the person or this defiant screw you I am what I am altitude. Dead Eye Just told it as it happened no excuses or apologies,. I was surprised all the stories I could identify with, those nuns got me too. I¿v ridden with a club for seven years and was impressed how he put into words the brotherhood he felt, and the last chapter WOW!! I¿v recommend this book to everyone I know and so far no complaints. There is a lot more to being a biker than riding and raising hell, like they say ,If I need to explain You really wouldn't¿ understand. I¿d be proud to split a lane with you any day.     Should have been lame biker

    This has got to be one of the worse books I have ever read. I kept waiting for the outlaw biker to show-up. The stories are mainly about anyone who rides a bike and actually takes it somewhere and things happen. He was shot and bitten be a rattle snake when he was a kid. And he was a brat at that. All of the stories were told from a high school humor point of view, none of them funny or really interesting. Save your money and buy one of Sonny Barger's or Hunter Thompson's books.

    Great Book

    Deadeye Read the book and loved it. From a female point of view I read what I already knew. Under the patch most men are decent guys who love their family. All the things 'criminal' you wrote about happen not just in the biker world but everywhere.Anyone who gets bent over the way you told your story didn't appreciate the story. The life style of the outlaw will never change but you gave it a real perspective. Not only a biker you were a son,father,husband, and most of all friend. Combine all of that with the talent of managing money and running your own businesses I would say thay makes you really smart and talented. Keep writing! You are a great story teller.     Great road trip read

    My husband and I just read Outlaw Biker to each other on a recent road trip--car, not bikes. We're just ordinary folk with no special interest in bikes but we found the book entertaining. Laughed a lot, grimaced a lot too, and cried when Butch died. I don't know about all the past goings-on Deadeye reveals but I was moved by his honesty regarding his feelings and his philosophies as he 'matured'...would love to have read more in this regard.

    I Really enjoyed it.!!!

    Having ridden Harley's for the past ten years and gotten to know some motorcycle club members in my area, I really enjoyed the stories about runs, the clubhouse, and the tightness of the brother hood. I found myself liking Dead Eye and wishing the book was longer. Im sure some of the stories were enhanced But I found myself going right along and never saying no way that's bullshit. My wife who has never had any interest in my selection of biker books actually ended up reading it to see what had me laughing out loud. She finally admitted she enjoyed it and really was glad I didn't have any friends like Dead Eye a Bad influence I guess. Any way I really liked the book and will definitely read it again, and will tell all my friends about it. Biker Bob

    Entertaining book. Hard to put down

    Surely Richard Dead Eye Hayes has defied all actuarial tables to live long enough to write ¿Outlaw Biker.¿ I read an advance copy of this memoir at full throttle with fascination equal to passing an especially grisly wreck on the highway. The writing possesses sureness, authenticity, and maybe even a touch of poetry. If you have a rebellious teenage son, don¿t read this book any time soon. This may just be the best book ever written by an author who¿s been shot twice, stabbed once, and bitten by a rattlesnake! Geoffrey Leavenworth, Author
