Not only is there a great romance here, with both characters growing and
discovering themselves as their love grows for the other, but there is a
timely message. A cause that is near and dear to my heart is caring for
veterans, especially for those who have risked their lives serving their
countries, and return scarred, both inside and out. There is never
enough money or resources to care for these soldiers properly. This
topic is touched upon in Outrageous Confessions. The hero and heroine of
this book use their talents and wits to do good for the veterans of the
peninsular war of the Regency period. I was very touched by this. This
book was not serious all the time, and this heavy topic was dealt with
in a way appropriate for a romance novel. There was humor tossed about
throughout the book, and I laughed aloud at least a couple times. It was
very well balanced. The secret identities of the two main characters
were fun aspects of the story; it was interesting to see how each of
them used those identities, and to watch these two characters grow as people.
Outrageous Confessions of Lady Deborah By Marguerite Kaye
Lady Deborah Kinsail, a young widow at the age of eight and twenty, had the most handsome man fall on her, from the side of the house. She was out for her nightly walk while staying at what use to be her home, but now belonged to her deceased husbands cousin, when she suddenly found herself underneath him. And her life was not the same after that. Deborah had her secrets, one of them was so deep that she kept a shield up from feeling any emotions. The other secret was the talk of the ton….scandalous even.
Elliot was carrying major scars from the war. He saw too many soldiers die or maimed because those in power refused to send the supplies they needed. He found a way to fight back and help those now neglected soldiers and families. Elliot Marchmont was finishing up some ‘business’ when he fell upon the woman, literally. A woman that turned hot and cold so fast it was like she was two different women.
Can these two hurt souls help each other mend? Such a tug-of-war of emotions happen in this book. It shows how past hurts can cling so strongly and how the mind believes lies so deeply that the truth is hard to accept. This story has romance, adventure, a touch of danger and lots of secrets. I enjoyed reading it.

This story takes place during the regency period right after the Napoleonic wars have ended. The widowed Lady Kinsail writes risque novels to support herself as she doesn't want to be beholden to her husband's relatives. Elliot Marchmont, a gentleman and ex-officer has resorted to stealing in order to support his charity for ex-soldiers and to seek vengence on peers of the realm and those in authority who kept much needed supplies from soldiers during the war. This story was well-written and does a good job of portraying the fate of the returning veterans of the Napoleonic war with England. There are several threads including the fate of veterans, women's roles, vengence seeking and others running through the story all woven into a satisfying romantic read in a fictional setting portraying historic truth. Ms. Kaye does an exemplary job at prortraying the motives and needs of the hero and heroine. I enjoyed reading this book and was not able to put it down until I finished reading the whole book!
