Overview

Jennie McGrady plans to spend the last weeks of summer relaxing and hanging out with her boyfriend in her grandmother's coastal hometown. But she barely arrives before learning that the mayor's teenage daughter has been murdered. Jennie's reluctant to get involved in the emotional case, until the suspect turns out to be someone she knows…

Todd Kopelund is under arrest for murdering the mayor's daughter—his girlfriend, Jessica Ames. He claims he's innocent, and Jennie can't imagine Todd hurting anyone. But the mayor is determined to prove Todd guilty—and the evidence is pretty convincing.

Ryan Johnson is Jennie's boyfriend and Todd's best friend. He says he cares a lot for Jennie, yet when she expresses doubts about Todd's innocence, Ryan pulls away—leaving Jennie to look for answers on her own.

Jessica's death is only the beginning…

When his best friend is arrested for murder, Ryan teams up with his girlfriend Jennie to find the real killer.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 7 UpJennie is vacationing for two weeks at her grandmother's beach-front home in Oregon, and looks forward to spending time with her boyfriend, Ryan, who lives next door. However, when his best friend is accused of murdering the mayor's daughter, Ryan enlists her help in tracking down the killer. Clues lead her to believe that the crime is linked to a proposition to bring a casino to Bay Village. Jennie is reluctant to get involved in the case, but an attempted murder and the death of the mayor get her back on track. Other clues are handed to her, too, making her detective work seem more of a coincidence than a result of good sleuthing. Along the way, Jennie and Ryan quarrel, make up, and fight again. The transitions between chapters are suspenseful enough to keep readers going, but the writing is not very tight. When Ryan is lost at sea, Jennie, his mother, and several other people go off to a state park; none of them seem the least bit concerned about missing an important phone call or word about him. The mystery is solved, but there are still loose ends. Slight Christian fiction.Linda L. Plevak, Alamo Area Library System, San Antonio, TX

    Awesome!

This is by far the best Jennie McGrady book yet! It finally puts some closure on her situation with her dad yet opens whole new opportunites for future storylines.
