Overview

Sustainable business success is ultimately dependent upon thequality of the ownership involved

The role of ownership is not only to supply risk capital and makemanagement accountable reactively. Owners have a crucial valuecreation role to play in seeing to it that risks are reduced andeliminated through proactive initiatives and measures. Thisrequires competence as well as the will and the position toexercise such ownership.

This book addresses these issues of ownership and value creationfrom three different perspectives:
* It reviews the advancement of the corporate governance movementby an anlysis of its emergence, driving forces, current status andfuture challenges in the five largest economies in the world: theUSA, the UK, Germany, France, and Japan. In addition, it discussesthe prospects of international convergence of corporate governancestandards as well as the challenges for corporate governance andownership in the new economy.
* An in-depth study of one of the most successful owners in theworld - the Wallenberg sphere of Sweden. The Wallenberg dynasty hasfor almost 150 years been the proactive owner behind a number ofsuccessful international corporations such as ABB, AstraZeneca,Atlas Copco, Ericsson, Scania and many others. The case studyprovides crucial lessons to be learnt by proactive owners aroundthe world.
* A conceptual framework and analytical tools illustrated bypractical examples to address issues of value creation and the roleof ownership. This includes a thorough analysis of different typesof risks, risk logic and dynamics, as well as concepts for thereduction/elimination of risks. Finally, the empirical andconceptual analyses are synthesised into recommendations for howthe function of ownership and corporate governance could beenhanced to achieve sustainable business prosperity.
