Overview

Against her will, Arabella is gambled by her stepfather in a card game and won by the fiercely scarred Lord Darth Peregrine. A man who believes that no woman could desire him. Lord Peregrine holds Arabella captive to his sexual desires. He is the lord and master and she is naked to his control. In the end Lord Peregrine saves Arabella's young brother ... and he saves himself. m/f HEA. Owning Arabella is previously published in Allure Gold Two Erotic Novels Favorite Lines: Punishment! Darth had said punishment! Arabella squealed again as Darth hauled her to one of the bedposts. There he lifted her wrists high over her head as she wiggled and fought his hold. But he took the thinnest belt and wrapped both of her wrists, pulling them higher to bind the belt around the bedpost. Bringing even her heels off the ground. She was hung helplessly naked and heaving from the exertion of trying to escape him. “God, you are beautiful,” he uttered, swiping a broad hand across his scarred mouth as if he had not meant to say it. He was standing to the side of her with one of his hands hung down at his side and the wide leather strap dangling to the floor. Arabella clenched her eyes and tensed in terrified anticipation of the lash she knew was coming. Flinching when Darth moved, only no sudden pain came across her back. Instead, she heard the soft whoosh of the feather mattress. Then she dared to open her eyes to see Darth stretched out like a great feline cat crossways on the corner of the bed. His penetrating gray eyes were gazing up at her. She had never felt more exposed in her life, stripped naked, and helpless before a man. “I hate you!” she cried, not knowing what else to say or to do as Darth lay there, and then he smiled slowly. Arabella’s heart caught unreasonably, for she would never think this brute, this bully, who was so utterly male, could be attractive in his own way.

    Beauty meets Beast...

What a great story line between the tormented hero and the captive. This is a very well written story weaved with sexual tension and pure passion! A must read for those who are first time readers to this genre. Shirl Aders is an articulate writer who shows the human emotion through her wonderful writing.

    I really liked this book.

I find the part where she's humiliated in front of other people annoying and far from hot but for the most part I really like it. This book is 321 pages long but the story is only 301 pages of that and the rest are snippets of other similar books. It think it was definitely worth $2.99. Enjoy!

P.S. If any men are reading this, there is NO WAY IN HELL this would ever really be ok. This is a fantasy book and not even close to reality. Don't ever start to rape a woman and think she's going to become responsive and enjoy it. Also NO WOMAN likes her clothes being ripped.

    Bad Editing

I wanted to like this book. I loved the premise, but the editing was a train wreck.

Ex: "His emotions would rain..." No. They wouldn't. They could reign, but there will be no raining of his emotions.

"Even the whore's stayed..." The whore's what stayed where? It's supposed to be plural instead of possessive.

These are only two examples and while I won't usually rate lower for a typo or two, these most basic of errors were continual throughout the book and it detracted from the story significantly. As well as spacing problems and formatting issues.

I can't say I'll purchase from Allure again.

    Harlequin Romance disguised as erotica

Good story. Nice characters. Lots of sexual tension but very little leads to mutual fulfillment. From the book description and cover art, I was expecting more. Despite the disappointment, I enjoyed the story.

    Waste of my time!

I thought by all the good reviews this was going to be an awesome read. What lies! everything about this book was horrible! the characters were unrelatable and silly and the plot was just bad and extremely rushed. I'm glad this was only $3, so i don't feel so bad about wasting my money.

    Waste of time!!!!

Really disappointed. What book did the people who gave this good ratings read??? There could have been a good story in this, but it just was not done well. The characters are not believable and this book reads like a rough draft.

Owning Arabella--- an erotic retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Unlike some books of this author's Archangel series, this book had a visible plotline and better charachterization. It starts off in a somewhat shocking manner, as the author works on the reader to accept the Beast's humanity and as the Beast is endowed with humanising traits. Nevertheless, I do wish that the author would have added a few more pages at the end explaining/describing the wedding and the subsequent dismissal of Mr Crum. IMHO, the ending of a story is just as important as the start.
Rec. with four and half stars (if this board will let me give a half star). I liked it and it held my interest for a few hours on a rainy afternoon.

Buy it for the hot, probing, naked, semi unwilling, sex. The author can do this very very well. After the first half of the book I flipped to the sexy parts. The plot disintegrates pretty quickly due to the lack of credible backstory and unbelievable way the characters fall in love with each other after a very short time together.

    more from this reviewer

    Enjoyable Read

I have not read any books by this author prior to this book, but after seeing so many great reviews by readers I decided to pick it up. That being said there were some very negative reviews about this book too. This story to me actually faired somewhere in the middle. It wasn't "awesome" but it wasn't horrible. It was a very enjoyable read, but it did not put this author on my must read list. This story was a kind of Beauty And The Beast minus the loving father. It was as much about owning Arabella as it was about taming Darth and generally I love those kinds of stories. The author did a pretty good job of making you feel a connection between the two characters so that you almost can ignore the short time frame, but the narration is a little too drawn at time for my taste and slowed down the story some. If you're looking for a regency romance with purple prose, this is not that story. This book is very steamy, very graphic, more along the lines of an erotica romance. STATS: Ebook Pages: 321 but only 301 pages are the actual story Steam Factor:Burning Hot

    It's okay

A decent amount of sexy scenes.. but not much plot, character development or otherwise unique qualities. The naughtier scenes were not quite erotic enough, neither was the playful banter or plot endearing enough to be considered a romance novel. Fairly middle of the road and a quick read.

    Erotic historical romance

This is an erotic historical romances.

Arabella was gambled away by her stepfather in a poker match to the Earl of Lee. The Earl of Lee is mortified when he wins Arabella. He has no need for the beautiful young girl and intends to leave her with her owner until he realizes that her safety is in danger. It isn't long before a celibate Darth starts to consider all the perverse possibilities that come with owning Arabella.

This book involves forced seduction and gets a 5 star for its smut factor and the plot was pretty good too. I only wished there had been a little more info at the end to tidy up the story. I will be reading more of Shirl Anders' Erotic Regency romances because her love scenes are smoking hot!
