The book presents the clinical management of both acute and chronic sports injuries and medical problems alongside the background and basic science of sports medicine. As well as giving systematic guidance about emergency treatment of injuries on and off the field, this book includes sections on sports injuries in specific groups of athletes: women, children, old people and people with disabilities. There are also sections on nutrition, dermatology, rehabilitation, drugs in sport, psychology and sport, and organizational issues.

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.
