    It's pac-man. Nuff' said. (Almost)

The original pac-man was released to japanese arcades in may 1980 to a lukewarm response. October 1980 it was released in North America. At first overlooked in favor of space invaders, it quickly grew popular and is now one of the most well known arcade games of all time. Along with space invaders. I guess I should end the arcade history lesson now and start the review. In the pac-man app there are three difficulty options, easy, normal, and classic. In the easy difficulty you have five lives for each continue. There are three continues for each difficulty. Normal has three lives per continue, and you move a little bit slower than you do in easy. The third mode, classic, gives you three lives per continue, and you move at the original speed. You probably noticed before you started reading this that I gave four stars. The missing fifth star, which I desperately want to give, is because of two of the four control options. My favorite option, and the easiest to use, is classic swipe. You swipe left, right, up, or down, anywhere on the screen, and you go in that direction. The second best option is swipe, where you swipe in any direction, but only on the joystick on the bottom of the screen. This is the most realistic option. The third setting is d-pad. The name is pretty self explanatory. There is a directional pad at the bottom of the screen, and you tap the buttons instead of swiping. Fourth, tilt, is also self explanatory. I'm not saying the last two options are completely broken, or that it's bad to have variety, but if you have ever, even once played pac-man with a joystick they will be utterly impossible to use. It's important to note that the shape of the levels stays the same throughout the whole game. These are the only two complaints I have about an otherwise flawless app representation of one of the purest forms of gaming. If you're still wondering if you should spend your three hard-earned dollars on this app, then think about this. In 1980 pac-man was the face of gaming. Before modern warfare and halo, before headshots and kill streaks and achievement points and online multiplayer. When being a noob meant dying on the first level, and having your initials in the highscore rack was the biggest honor possibly achievable. This was gaming.

In the great, subtle words of Pac-Man, "Wakka, wakka".

    Bad app

I thought this would be fun. The controller doesn't work good at all. I have a nook color and trying to get the pac man where you want it to go is frustrating. I tried all the level of controllers and they all stink. It was a waste of money.

This game works great on my Nook Tablet 16 gb. It runs much more smoothly than Ms. Pac Man and offers more control options. I like this better than Ms. Pac Man, thank you Namco Bandai for porting this classic game to the Nook! Please bring some more (Galaga, Galaxian, Rally-X...). I haven't tried to play the game outside of my home, so I don't know if the DRM (says it needs a wireless connection to check for updates) will present a problem if I try to play the game when I'm without internet access. That would be my only concern.

    Disappointed

I was really excited because this app looks and sounds like the original pac-man until you try to control pac-man. You either have to touch the screen guiding him through the maze or use a virtual controller. I find both to be very hard to do consequently I haven't found the play action to be much fun. I'm about ready to give it up.
