Overview

The official novelization of the upcoming sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim from visionary director Guillermo del Toro!

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

"I wanted to make not a war movie, but an adventure movie, with a huge, romantic sense of adventure, a sense of grandeur, and operatic battles..." - Guillermo Del Toro

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“This is what novelizations should strive towards. Does it capture the essence of the film? Does it add to the experience? Yes on both counts.” – Blogcritics

“A blockbuster thriller ride.” – Geek Smash

“When the action starts, it doesn’t stop and fulfills all hopes of excitement and action as one could hope for.” – Geekstronomy
“If you enjoy action stories, military Science Fiction or monster stories than you will almost certainly like the fast-paced action in Pacific Rim.” – Twisted SciFi

“This book is a must read for any fan of Pacific Rim that wants a deeper, richer experience in that world. Irvine completely transformed a film about giant robots punching monsters into one of internal human struggling and triumph.” – Dorkadia

“I would happily recommend this book to anyone looking to beat the bejeezus out of an afternoon and send it down to a watery grave in the depths of the Pacific Ocean.” – Fanboy Comics

“All throughout the book (mostly between chapters) there are files and dossiers about the characters, places, and events in the Pacific Rim universe. These files give you an amazingly large understanding of the story and its world.” - 8 Days a Geek

“Worthy to be owned by any Pacific Rim fan.” – GameNTrain

“Told from a strong 3rd person omniscient perspective, Alex Irvine does Pacific Rim does justice while bringing it to a new audience of readers and fans. Fans of the film and this book can only hope that Mr. Irvine has a shot at adapting a sequel!” – Fulvue Drive-In

Still a better love story than Twilight.

I loved the movie and I love the book.  The book goes a bit deeper into what the characters are thinking about and how they feel in the moment.  I hope there is a sequel!!!!

Good book, gives a more detailed background of charaters and history then the movie.

This was a good book, a great tie-in for the movie. I bought it because, while I saw the movie, which was fun to watch, the day I saw it there was some problems in the theater which distracted me from paying attention to the prologue, so i didn't really understand the timeline of events. But, this book was also great for the character profiles!

Thought it was going to be more action packed or atleast a bit better dialog and it gets confusing in the middle.

I would have given it a full five stars had I not noticed (this may be my mind playing tricks on me) that there had been revisions made to the book between reading it directly after purchasing it. With how often the Nook syncs up with what's stored online I wouldn't be surprised if it WAS revised. With that said I would greatly appreciate it if an explanation were to be brought forth for this.
