Pacifier [Explicit Lyrics]

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - John Duffy
After years of reigning the rock scene in their homeland, New Zealand's Shihad were ready to try their hand in America. In the studio on September 11, 2001, the band nearly called it quits and headed for home. With a name slightly similar to "jihad," the Arab word of "holy war," the quartet figured the deck was stacked against them. Instead, re-christened Pacifier, the group poured itself into the sessions with renewed commitment. The resulting self-titled album is not so much a good band reinventing itself (being that their sound didn't alter that much), but a band finding a new enthusiasm for their own music. The first single, "Bullitproof," on the surface declares this ...

The first single, "Bullitproof," on the surface declares this new enthusiasm. It earned heavy rotation on MTV2 soon after its release. Though their nu-metal/hard rock sound is nothing that hasn't been done (maybe even done to death) in the last few years, the obvious amount of live energy translated to tape adds convincing weight. Add that to a rare melodic flair among hard rock bands: more radio-friendly tracks like "Walls" and "Trademark" display definite crossover potential.

    Solid Stuff

Now really the first bit of this album dissapointed me with tracks such as Bullitproof and Comefort Me, mainly because those efforts seem a little forced. Semi Normal is a decent track but nothing that really jumps out in your face and makes you just open your mouth in awe. But then things start looking up with Walls. THis is one of the brilliant tracks of 2003 so far, when in all actuality it was written and was a hit in Australia before it even came to this side of the world. Now the next few tracks are solid, very solid, and you can tell that the band really start clicking. Stranger is a hard hitting rock track with huge melodies. All the right riffs and all the sweet harmonies and melodies, just a good ol' fashion rock song. Next on deck is Everything, this is a well structured radio friendly song that hits the mark. Then we get hit with Run which is just a well orchastrated pop tune. A fabulous set of songs, then Nothing Hits unexpectedly, it has the right amount of energy to really get things going mid way through the disk. So what if it's explicit it's great. Now we have Home, and this is a very memorable ballad. Now I skipped the next few tracks to get to COming DOwn and man was I impressed Wieland is a phenominal song writer here and full propos to the King of STP here. One word for this effort, amazing. Nuff said.

From the first song to the last, this s@#$ rocks. songs i recommend if you wanna try it first are Comfort Me, Run, Stranger and Home. i gaurantee that if you like rock you'll love this. Pacifier are the future of rock, and its looking pretty bright.
