What’s an Alpha Male to do when he meets the Alpha Female of his dreams? Step one, hide all sharp objects…
All Zach Sheridan ever wanted was to become Alpha Male of his Pack and be left alone. What he definitely didn’t need in his life was some needy female demanding his attention. What he never saw coming was the vicious, scarred female who not only demanded his attention but knew exactly how to get it.
Sara Morrighan knew this was the best she could expect from her life. Good friends. A nice place to live. And a safe job. But when Zach rode into her small Texas town with his motorcycle club, Sara knew she wanted more. She knew she wanted him.
But after one sexy encounter with her dream biker, everything is starting to change. Her body. Her strength. That new thing she’s doing with the snarling. Even her best friends are starting to wonder what’s going on with her.
But this is only the beginning. Sara’s about to find out her life was meant for so much more. And Zach’s about to find true love with the one woman who makes him absolutely insane.
The book has been previously published and expanded for Samhain Publishing.
Sara didn't notice him, but that didn't surprise him. That grandmother of hers made sure Sara was completely oblivious to the power buried inside that sweet body.
She sat at the bar knocking back a beer in a worn leather biker jacket three times too big for her. Clearly a man's jacket. Zach's eyes narrowed when he allowed himself to wonder if that jacket belonged to some asshole. Some asshole other than him, that is. He didn't like the thought. Even as he fought it, he didn't like to think for a second Sara might be getting down and as dirty as he'd been daydreaming about lately with some scumbag. Some scumbag other than him, that is.
The music changed into good trance and a guy invited Angie to join him on the dance floor. With a wink at Sara, she followed behind him. The Mouth, as he liked to call the current object of Conall's lust, was up to her eyes in patrons, which left Sara sitting there by herself. It was like she didn't exist to these people. How could they miss her? The males of his Pack noticed her and if it weren't for him, they'd be sniffing around her right now. But the locals and the bikers acted like she was part of the wallpaper. What idiots.
Still, Sara didn't look upset. Instead, she sat on the barstool, drinking her beer and watching everything around her. Absorbing. That's what she did. No one else may realize it, but Sara had the hard, cold eyes of a predator. And it turned Zach on something fierce.
Sara let the trance music flow through her, her head moving to the beat as she spun her stool around. The music dropped and she raised her arms in the air, howling out a "woo-hoo" right along with the entire crowd as the music hovered right "there".
Oh, yeah, this DJ was awesome. The beat swung back up and the crowd roared in appreciation.
Yeah. This is what she loved. When the music took her away. Even for a little while. For a few moments, she forgot the pain, her grandmother and her less than thrilling life. She forgot it all while letting that beat move through her.
Someone sat next to her and she glanced to her left, expecting to see Angie. Instead, she saw him. Leaning back against the bar, his elbows resting on the polished wood, and his legs stretched out in front of him and crossed at the ankles. The man seemed to have an array of black, unknown-band T-shirts, blue jeans that fit his superb ass perfectly, and biker boots. He didn't wear much else, and God in heaven, he really didn't need to.
"Thought you weren't going out tonight," he said, raising his voice enough so she could hear him over the music but not enough for her to consider the yelling a threat.
"That's not what I said," she responded. "I said I wasn't going out tonight with you."
"And why was that again?"
"Cause I don't like you."
He snorted, it was sort of like a laugh, and went back to watching the crowd.
Christ, the man was irritating. Cute and hot and irritating.
She was seconds away from asking him why the hell he was even talking to her when a flash of gold dragged her eyes back to the dance floor. Sure enough, Angie had just stumbled back from two guys about to gut each other over her. It wouldn't be the first time. Men, especially bikers, loved to fight over Angie. Of course, the one who got her could never keep her. But no point in telling them that. They saw Angie in all her cute, gold outfits and sexy, way overpriced shoes and thought they could handle her.
When they ended up in the ER, the doctors desperately trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding, those same guys always seemed so surprised.
Sara knocked against the bar with her knuckles, catching Miki's attention.
"Angie alert."
Miki looked out over the dance floor and growled.
"Leon!" she yelled, and the bouncer was there in an instant with one of the new trainees. They grabbed hold of the men and Sara barely caught Miki in time, trying to dive over the bar with her baseball bat firmly in hand.
"Don't even think about it, Kendrick."
The two bouncers picked the fighting men off the floor and dragged them to the exit.
"Dammit, Morrighan!" Miki, grinning, slid back off the bar. "I could have taken at least one of them out and it would have been totally legal this time." She slipped the bat back to its hiding place under the bar at the same time she caught sight of Zach. "What's he doing here?"
Sara shrugged. "I don't know." Sara looked at Zach. "What are you doing here?"
"Enjoying the wonder that is Texas."
Trying hard not to laugh, Sara said to Miki, "He's learning to love our mighty state."
Miki rolled her eyes. "Whatever."
And then he was there. The big blond stalker. He smiled at Miki. "Hi."
She didn't even try and fake that particular conversation. Instead, Miki yelled, "Break!" and then disappeared into the back room, slamming the door behind her.
The blond frowned in confusion and gave his order to the other bartender.
"Fun friends."
Sara turned and faced Zach. "If I didn't know better I'd swear that was sarcasm I just heard."
"Me? Sarcastic? That's crazy talk."
"Then you fit in perfectly around here."
Zach motioned to the beer in her hand. "Want another one?" Okay, was he buying her a drink or just buying her a drink? Hhhhm. This is a new level of idiotic questions, Morrighan.

I wish I had of read this book in my local B&N before I added it to my NOOK. Because it's DEFINATELY not worth reading.. It took several pages in before the story even got somewhat intersting and even then I had to make myself continue reading it... They had 1 big fight scene and that was it. It's a book about pretty much NOTHING but them having sex. And I'm sorry but I want a good story to read NOT JUST sex. This is a book I would tell everybody save your money and get JR WARD (brotherhood series)and Laura Adrian (Midnight breed series)... 2 thumbs WAY DOWN !

I absolutely loved this book!! It was awesome. I enjoyed how the main character was incredibly tough and not perfect, like a lot of main characters tend to be. This is an awesome book! I would recommend it to anyone!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I bought this book hoping to have something to distract me while waiting for a doctors appt. but i soon found out that though i thought the book wasnt going to be as good as some of Laurenston's other work, this book was worse, it centered mostly around sex. Any other plot lines in the book came after sex or ended in sex. It was kind of annoying after a few chapters.
The basic plot is that Sara has her life changed when a sex man enters her small town. She learns the truth of her family, how her parents really died and then she learns what she has now become

Story line isn't too bad, but I was really turned off by the way everyone talked to each other. Maybe I'm old and unhip--and I'm fine with that--but I don't like to read about friends calling each other obscenities constantly and flipping each other off throughout the book. Wouldn't be friends with someone like that and wouldn't encourage my daughter to have friends like that. I won't read any more of her books.

Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged. For me this was my first Shape Shifter story. I was worried that I wouldn't understand it but it was awsome. Not a detail left untold. It is about a very headstrong woman Sara that has two wonderfully difficult friends. When "THE PACK" drifts into town she is instantly drawn to Zach. Sara is a born Shape shifter but no one has ever told her about herself and everyone in the town has tried to protect her. When her grandmother, (her main protector) passes away Sara is left vunerable. Apparently there is another sort of "PACK" that is out to get her. Zach has to make a difficult decision and Sara is forced quickly into accepting and learning what she is and where she comes from. Sara was truly one of a kind. Her and her friends had me laughing during the entire story. The main male Zach was truly a man to be reckoned with. The short explanation on the back of the book did not do it justice at all.. But I'm super glad that I got it and read it.

First off, let me say gag! This book was very disappointing! I am thoroughly pleased that I only paid $3.59 for this NOOKbook.
Pack Challenge had an 'okay' storyline, and I did catch myself chuckling a *very* few times.. But honestly this book was just crude. It showed female characters using language that embarrassed me and there was more sex than story. This is nothing more than a smut story. I don't think there was a whole conversation between any characters in the book that didn't involve the topic of sex.
The novel had a very slow start, and by Chapter 3 or 4 - I was considering bailing on the whole book. The beginning jumps between Miki, Angelina, and Sara and it was hard to keep them separate. When a book introduces new characters, I prefer them to establish who each one is before jumping into a 3 page he said/she said commentary where the reader has no idea who is saying what.
This book could've had the potential to be a great story; the main characters parents were killed in a horrible accident, she had to live with her nut-so grandmother, she never 'fit in', grandmother dies and she finds out the truth about who she is. Sadly, 'who she really is' is really a sex-addicted arrogant woman who was never taught manners.
Needless to say, I won't be continuing this series.
My Personal Ratings:
Originality: 2/5
Plot: 2/5
Captivatingness: 0/5
Writing Style: 0/5
Must Read: 0/5

The witty lines between the brothers and their mates, crack me up. And the love scenes are too sweet. I have re read the series and still enjoy it from beginning to end. Shelly has a definite hit with this series. All her stories are worth a read.

Shelley Laurenston knows how to write believable, lovably scarred, strong characters better than any paranormal romance writer publishing today!!! I would recommend every single one of her books if you are looking to read about beautiful alpha males, strong alpha females the families they protect and the enemies that vanquish. Her characters are of all races and cultures, mix in some of the best and steamiest sex scenes and laugh out loud situations imaginable and that's a Shelley Laurenston book!!
