Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Hynes-Berry
For just over fifty years, young children have been enchanted by the many adventures of the Brown's family loveable bear, Paddington. Here Bond spins yet another tale, recounting the ups and downs of the visit Paddington and his family make to a famous London department store in order to visit Santa Claus. Of course, this being Paddington, there are confusions. Still, it is just as sure that everything will be set right, and in this case, the intervention comes from the family's friend, Mrs. Bird. Children who already are fans of Paddington will be comfortable with the British conventions and terminology and will enjoy R.W. Alley's detailed illustrations. By the same token, those who are already fans will probably forgive Bond and Alley for churning out yet another saga that features the characters but does not quite achieve the depth and charm of the early Paddington books. Meet the Author

Michael Bond began chronicling Paddington’s adventures in his first book, A Bear Called Paddington, published in 1958. Fortunately, bears don’t need much encouragement, and Paddington has since filled the pages of twelve further novels, a variety of picture books, and many other projects written for the young at heart. Paddington’s creator is still writing and lives in London, England, not far from Paddington Station, where it all began.

R. W. Alley has illustrated a number of books featuring Paddington Bear. He lives in Barrington, Rhode Island, with his wife, author Zoë B. Alley.
