I have been paddling for the last 60 years and this illustrated book is clearly the best I have seen to learn from. I highly recommend it for both beginners and advance paddlers.
One of the better books for someone starting out. Covers all the important topics although as with any sport some recommendations differ from what someone else may offer. Besides paddling and rescue instructions, offers great practical information on gear selection, packing for overnights, navigation, etc. Great illustrations and photos. Fun to pick up anytime and enjoy not just as a reference. Makes me want to pack up and head out every time I open it. Not a substitute for lessons but a great companion to instruction.
