Overview

I want to welcome you to my first published collection of poems. Previously, my poetry has been published only on a variety of websites and I am pleased to find them together at last. I hope you will enjoy these pieces, which span my early attempts at wordsmith including my juvenilia, up to the last year. They include many pieces written for writing classes in college and graduate school. Some of them try out forms of rhyme and meter and some are more faithful than others. I hope you’ll forgive me my experimentation.

All poetry is, in one form or another, inherently selfish on the part of the writer. The author looks inward in hope of finding some universal truth, or even some individual truth that might apply to the reader. Robert Graves, the great Mythographer, said that poetry is the persuit of the White Goddess, or the Muse, and is ultimately about life and death. But it is the quality of how we live and how we die that poetry describes on some symbolic level. You will find mythology sprinkled amongst my writing, and if nothing else, I hope you will find a good turn of phrase or a clever idiom.

    Gotta Have It!

I just finished reading Freeman's "Pagan Poetry"--it was great! Especially for the price. If nothing else, buy it for the "Twas the Night Before Solstice" poem. My family really enjoyed reading that aloud this solstice, and it really got me thinking about what the seasons mean to us personally, as Pagans. The poems touch on the authors past too, which reminded me that Paganism colors all parts of our lives. I was really inspired by the poetry in here!
