She wanted a one-night stand...and then he moved in next door.

She wanted a one-night stand...and then he moved in next door.

Paige Bennett is more than content with her life and what she does—and does not—have in it. She’s got a supportive family, a great apartment, and the best friend a girl could ask for; so what if her relationships expire faster than a carton of milk? After a disastrous detour courtesy of poor judgment in the boyfriend department, her plan is back on track and her dream job is finally within her grasp. Nothing can make her lose focus now. Well, nothing except the one-night stand she had with her best friend’s surrogate brother. The one-night stand she can’t stop thinking about.

Adam Reid has always been reliable...the responsible son, the loyal friend, the steady boyfriend. Two years ago, he graduated Magna Cum Laude and is well on his way to making a name for himself at an accounting firm in Denver—a far cry from working as a helper in the Mom and Pop store his parents own in Michigan. But when said store starts failing, he’s the only one who can step in and help. So reliable Adam does what he always does, and he comes to the rescue.

Paige thought Adam was a safe bet because he lives halfway across the country. But then suddenly he’s moving back to their town, and then into her apartment building, and soon he’s worming his way right into her life. If she’s not careful, he might sneak his way into her heart, too...

This is book # 3 in the Reluctant Hearts series. While this book can be read as a standalone novel, for full understanding and enjoyment for the reader I advise reading the series books in the order intended. There are inside jokes, and light spoilers to the other books that will be missed if you do not read them in order given. Paige and Adam meet through mutual friends and have an incredible night together. Now, months later, she is avoiding him since she still dreams of that night they had. He seems to be everywhere with their mutual friends, and she is avoiding them also. Adam is determined to see if there is more to this thing between them. He also knows she is skittish from the past. He cannot forget about Paige. Adam is serious about finding a way to make it work. This was a book full of surprises. It was also HOT! Such incredible depth to the characters and the development for some happens right before the readers eyes. I loved every page and did not want the book to end. ***This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review.

Adam might be my favorite...just saying. I don’t know what else to say about Brighton Walsh’s books that will convey the love I have for her stories and characters. She knows exactly what I am looking for in my romance novels…fantastic characters, a bit of swoon, some sexy times, and a story that pulls me in. Paige is one of those characters that when I started this book I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about her but in the end, I loved her. Paige is smart, she works hard, she loves her family, and she isn’t afraid to go after what she wants…or say what she wants. After getting burned in a relationship in the past, Paige only does hookups but the one kink in that these days is Adam Reid. Paige thought he would be one night of great sex but he continues to occupy space in her thoughts and she isn’t ok with that…she has other things to worry about. Like her internship and getting the job of her dreams. So…Adam. He might actually be my favorite of all of Walsh’s heroes. There is so much about him that makes me love him – he is smart (he even has the nerdy glasses), he isn’t afraid of a challenge, he can be swoony, he’s absolutely sexy, and of course, he loves his family. The other thing about Adam is that he also wants a relationship…the challenge is that he wants that relationship with Paige – which, as I mentioned, is not her thing. Just trust me when I say, while all the guys are great, there’s just something (or a lot of things) about Adam that put him at the top of the list. I loved these two together and the way Walsh builds their story and weaves it around the existing characters of this series (Cade, Winter, Tessa, and Jase) made me want to read all the other books again. I also loved seeing these characters with their families. Paige’s relationships with her brothers and her parents was fantastic. Selfishly I hope Walsh considers writing more about her brother’s stories as I am definitely curious about them. I also thought it was great to get some insight into Adam’s relationship with his parents. Both pieces added a layer to the story that we didn’t necessarily have in the other books. As these two try to figure out what they want from each other, they are also trying to figure out things in other areas of their lives. Paige is fighting for a job after her internship and doing her best to prove that she belongs at the police station (and not just because her brother works there). Adam is only back in town to help his parents…he has always planned to go back to Denver. This is the sticking point for both – he absolutely feels he has to go back and Paige isn’t about to give up the opportunity she has earned. Now you have to read the book to find out what happens! Trust me, if you love romance books you should absolutely be reading Brighton Walsh’s stuff. Her characters are real and her stories are engaging. She also writes heroes in a way that will have you wondering why fictional characters can’t be real. Go get Paige in Progress because you don’t want to miss out on this one and definitely consider the other books in the series.

I've loved Paige since the first line she spoke, so I was beyond thrilled to find out we were getting her story. I adore Paige's snark and attitude, her foul mouth and her complete loyalty. She is easily someone I would want to hang out with, even knowing we'd probably end up in jail. As for Adam...I don't have words for that boy. He's delicious. Hopefully that explains it all. The best thing about Brighton's books is that I'm guaranteed a HEA, so even if everything goes to crap {like it inevitably does}, I don't have to skip to the end first. And the epilogue for this story is damn near perfection. As always, if you haven't picked up Brighton's books, do yourself a favor. **Huge thanks to Brighton for sending me the arc**
