Paint Landscapes In Acrylic is a great resource

This book has helpful exercises in using lighting and perspective while incorporating techniques for painting clouds, different types of trees, sky, grass, rocks, mountains, etc. As a beginner, I found the exercises very helpful although the author does at times leave out details for making your painting exercise look like hers. But that also forces the beginner to find their own style. When I couldn't get the wanted effect by using her recommendations, simply trying a different size or shape brush worked! Be open minded and flexible. This is not the be-all, end-all resource book, but it is a wonderful beginner book and a great place to start. I'll keep this book on hand and refer to it again and again.
