Overview

It's Pajama Day at school, when everyone in Mrs. Shepherd's class wears fuzzy slippers, eats a special breakfast snack, and lies down for reading time. Everyone, that is, except Drew A. Blank. Drew has forgotten his slippers, his snack, his teddy bear, and his pillow-he even forgot to wear pajamas! Drew would forget his own name if he didn't have it written on his hand as a reminder. He doesn't want to be the odd man out, so he comes up with all kinds of ingenious ways to join in the day's events. But later he has the nagging feeling he's forgetting something else. . . . Will he remember what it is in time?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In the third title begun with School Picture Day, Mrs. Sheperd's students put on their PJs and head to class for Pajama Day by Lynn Plourde, illus. by Thor Wickstrom-all except for Drew. But the boy's resourcefulness allows him to join in the fun. Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
School Library Journal
K-Gr 2-The creators of School Picture Day (2002) and Teacher Appreciation Day (2003, both Dutton) have produced another winner. Despite numerous sticky notes applied to various parts of his body, Drew A. Blank has forgotten all of the things he was asked to bring to class for Pajama Day. Undaunted by his forgetfulness and not wanting to be the "odd man out," the boy uses his imagination and arrives at some inventive solutions to supply the needed items. He places mismatched mittens on his feet to serve as slippers and even dresses up the class guinea pig so he can participate in the teddy bear play. A tongue-in-cheek explanation for Drew's forgetfulness is offered at the end of the book when his mother picks him up from school and chauffeurs him on a frenzied round of activities that would interfere with anyone's concentration. As with the other two titles, part of the humor lies in the over-the-top improbability of the situation. Wickstrom's cheery watercolor cartoons, depicting a multiethnic class, add to the fun. Pajama Day won't be a sleeper.-Grace Oliff, Ann Blanche Smith School, Hillsdale, NJ Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Kirkus Reviews
Isn't there one in every class? All of Mrs. Shepherd's students show up on Pajama Day with pillows, plushies, and pj's-except for aptly named Drew A. Blank. Happily, Drew does bring along a full measure of ingenuity, and so rather than being "odd man out" all day, he quickly concocts alternative sleepwear from found materials, substitutes a balloon for a pillow, finds ways to participate in all the day's activities-and even becomes a local hero by waking his classmates from an inadvertently extended naptime before they miss their bus. But there's something else he's supposed to remember. . . . Wickstrom's relaxed cartoon scenes of smiling, bean-nosed figures visually underscore the casually inclusive atmosphere in Mrs. Shepherd's class; readers who have already met these lively children and their understanding teacher in School Picture Day (2002) and Teacher Appreciation Day (2003) will happily snuggle down for this new episode. Pajama Day

This book makes me laugh! In this fabulous story, 'Pajama Day', by Lynn Plourde Drew forgets everything. He forgets his snack, pillow, homework assignment, pj's, slippers, and teddy bear on pajama day. It is just crazy! I think this book is awesome. Drew had to go to the dentist, piano, soccer, and a scout meeting. He made it to each one, because he finally wrote a letter on this foot to remind him! He remembered! A great quote from the author is when Drew said, 'Double-Fudge, I forgot mine! I knew there was a reason I stuck a sticky note to my stomach!' My favorite part is when Drew is trying to sleep and he can't find his pillow. He found a balloon and he keeps playing with it and it popped! I recommend this book to everyone because Drew forgets everything. Do you forget stuff?
