Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Who can resist the humor of Boynton's illustrations—it really does not matter too much that the text is a bit silly, the pictures are what carry this board book. The die cut cover has a crescent moon shape set against a black background to simulate nighttime. Open it up and we see a cat, pig, chicken, and floppy eared dog, all wearing pajamas. The pictures show that nighttime is approaching, and everyone is getting ready for bed. Some pajamas are red others blue, some are old some are new, but whatever the style or color, it is pajama time. All the dancing may make it hard for little ones to settle down and go to sleep, but in the end, the pajama wearers are all tucked into bed where "You can have a party in your dreams…" and little ones are urged to sleep tight. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
From The Critics
PreS-Two rhyming board books that present familiar concepts. The first one introduces morning activities such as yawning, stretching, breakfast, getting dressed, and playtime. The second title looks at the various sleep outfits that the endearing creatures put on before joining a pajama party: "Pajammy to the left. Pajammy to the right.-Everybody's wearing them for dancing tonight." Everyone finally settles down, the lights are turned out, and wishes are shared for a hushed good night. Boynton's characters are as lovable as ever, all with expressions sure to win over toddlers.-Olga R. Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton
Cartoonist/author Sandra Boynton infuses her books with a sense of joy, silliness, and -- well, lots of farm animals. With her fun board books, the woman famous for the adults' mantra "Don't Let the Turkeys Get You Down" has become a natural favorite for toddlers.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    Great for bedtime

I love to read this to my daughter at bedtime. She loves to see the different animals and the pajamas they wear. Our whole family knows it by heart and often "sing" it when getting my daughter in her p.j.s

    One Of Boynton's Best

Sandra Boynton has quite a collection of wonderful children's books, but this one is definitely one of her best. Of course, it's most effective at bedtime, so get ready for a soundly sleeping child. Rhythm and rhyme galore makes this one fun story. Her illustrations are first-rate (and adorable).

    Prepare for Bedtime

This is a great book for toddlers as they prepare for bedtime. It's not too long, very colorful and turning the pages is easy for little fingers.

A book you will love to find yourself singing aloud!

A perfect book to have handy while getting dressed for bed. It gets my daughter to sit still and enjoy the process. She even dances to the sing-song words of the story.

    Wonderful bedtime book

My 3-year old loves this book, as well as all the other Boynton books. We start singing the PJ song as she gets ready for bed.

    IT's Pajama Time!

My seven month old son gets so excited when he sees the cover of Pajama Time. When I start reading the sing-songy text, his legs start kicking and he gets a huge smile on his face. We read this book multiple times a day. I have given Pajama Time as a gift to all of my friends with children.

    Great for Bedtime

I read this book to my son before bed and nap. Some of the verses we even dance to and he thinks it's silly. The ending has the perfect calm to relax your kiddo before sleeping.

    My grandson loves this book!

When I went to wake up my three year old grandson this past Saturday morning, through sleep eyes he pointed to the Pajama Time book that was on the floor next to his bed. He said 'Mommy reads that to me. Let's read it again.' So, as I read the book to him he knew the lines and even had his own 'moves' to the left and to the right. All of my 7 grandchildren love this series.

Both of my kids loves this book!

I got this book when my daughter 'who is now 8' was born. I about read the cover off she loved it so much. I now have a one year old son and brought this book out to read to him. My daughter came into the room the first night and started to saying the lines from memory and finished the book with us. She still had the lines memorized from when she was young! My son has to have Pajama Time read to him every night!

    So much fun!

My daughter loves this book. I have read it soooo many times, I can recite it by heart. It makes her laugh and giggle and even though it's a bedtime book. She can't get enough of this sing-song book!

    A MUST HAVE!

My husband and I have been reading this book to our daughter every night since she's been 1 month old. She is now 8 months and hasn't shown any signs of boredom. She has so much fun with the rhythmic story, she has a smile on her face from the first to the last page. She also kicks her legs and bounces her body as if she is dancing during the 'jamma, jamma, jamma, jamma, pj' part. Our suggestion would be to pick this book to be the first book to read before bedtime, because there is a high level of energy that fills the room with everyone reciting/singing the words. Not the quiet, snuggle bedtime book, but a ton of fun!

    Absolutely Great!

We absolutely loved the rhythm, and catchy chorus-line. My middle son refuses to leave the book alone. After I first read it through, I looked for the name of the illustrator, only to realized that the author was also the illustrator.Loved everything about the book.

    The best EVER!!

This book is incredible! This has been my son's favorite since he was 10 months old. He'll pick it every time over anything else. He wants it read over and over. It's colorful, fun, and the words are so catchy. He loves the "jamma jamma jamma jamma jamma pj" part so much he says it himself. This book makes a wonderful gift by itself or paired with "Hey Wake Up!" A sure hit for all kids.

    This Book Rules Our Roost!

It would just not be bedtime without Sandra Boydton's Pajama Time! My middle girl, age 21 months, brings it to me with glee every night and climbs in my lap. The other kids gather around too. It is fun and we love it. I would recommend it highly!

Another great book from Sandra Boynton.

Our two-year old son loves this one! It's become a must read before bedtime, or should I saw 'jammy time'! It's as fun to read as it is to listen to.

With Rhythm and Rhyme it's Boogie Time!

This is our bedtime favorite. My husband and I love reading this book to our 6 month old as much as he loves hearing it! We've been reading it to him since he was 3 months old, and I bet we'll still be reading it when he's 3 years old!
